It’s a trend that have girls putting their skinny jeans to rest, romantics raving about the past and guys scratching their heads. Ladies and gents, meet the palazzo pants.

For many years, skinny jeans and various other form-fitting silhouttes – harems, peg pants, leggings – have dominated the bottom half of our bodies. So it was a breath of fresh air when palazzo pants, that is wide leg pants, were the star of the international Spring Summer ’11 month-long fashion affair.

A throwback to the vintage vibes of the 1970s, palazzo pants is a flattering silhouette for all shapes and sizes. The naturally high-waisted style cinches at the waist and gives the illusion of legs that go on for days – which is also, how you pair your footwear to your flares.

As a rule of thumb, palazzo pants look best when gently grazing the floor. Hence, depending on the length of your pants, you can either go with flats or heels – just as long as the flow of the pants is uninterrupted. Alternatively, if in doubt, or your pants only come up to the ankle, opt for a pair of wedges – more comfortable than a pump and comes with in-built retro factor to boot!
