We all know celebrities are good at what they do – singing, acting, providing us with entertainment, the whole works. However, some celebrities have taken advantage of their fame and fortune to create empires for themselves in the oh so tough world of fashion. It’s not an easy business, but in a world where many sink or swim, these celebrities came out tops. Take a look at our top ten celebrity clothing lines!

Alexa Chung for Madewell

Alexa Chung is this generation’s ‘It’ girl, and there is almost literally nothing she can’t do, so it would seem. Television presenter, contributing editor for Vogue, music video star, and sometimes model, Alexa launched her collection in collaboration with J.Crew’s Madewell in 2011. With her eccentric fashion style and knack for putting things together, fashionistas worldwide awaited anxiously for her limited pieces collection which sold out quicker than you can say “Where’s my credit card?”

What I love about the Alexa Chung for Madewell Collection is that each and every piece screams “Alexa” and reminds us again why this young lass had a phenomenal Mulberry bag named after her. With industry heavyweights like Anna Wintour and Karl Lagerfeld singing her praises, Alexa can do no wrong and I for one am definitely eagerly anticipating her next collection!

Victoria Beckham by Victoria Beckham

Although I wasn’t particularly crazy for Victoria Beckham’s debut collection when it launched in 2008, I am impressed at how much her style and flair for tailored, classy cuts has grown since the label’s inception. And I definitely have to say that I love this look more than her early Spice Girl days!

Perfect for the career woman, Beckham’s penchant for graceful silhouettes and luxurious materials makes Victoria Beckham a highly coveted line by young executives, professionals and the like.

Elizabeth and James by Mary-Kate & Ashley Olsen

I’m quite certain that there’s really nothing this pair of multi-talented twins can’t do! Although household names, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, exploded on to the scene through sitcoms and movies starting from when they were as young as 9 months old, the now 26 year old pair have ventured more into fashion rather than entertainment.

Launched in 2007 and named after two of their siblings, I love the effortless bohemian chic vibe this label exudes. Blending masculinity and femininity with the twins’ trademark boho casual style, Elizabeth and James is definitely a winner!

House of Harlow 1960 by Nicole Richie

Although not a ‘clothing’ line per say, one of the most popular celebrity fashion lines has to be House of Harlow 1960 by Nicole Richie. Her iconic accessory line coveted by fashionistas worldwide was launched in 2009 after the birth of her daughter, Harlow Winter Kate Madden.

Soon after came her successful clothing line, Winter Kate. As successful as it is, House of Harlow 1960 was what launched Richie’s promising career in fashion and the world started to take her seriously, especially with her previously colourful past.

Jessica Simpson Collection by Jessica Simpson

Arguably one of the most successful celebrity fashion empires this generation, Jessica Simpson first started with a line of beauty products in 2004, and soon, her apparel and accessories line followed in 2005. In 2010, the Jessica Simpson Collection generated $750 million making it the top celebrity clothing empire.

Now encompassing intimates, plus size apparel, handbags and many more, the brand is projected to break $1 billion, making it the first celebrity-owned clothing line in history to earn $1 billion in annual sales. Phwoar, not some dumb blonde after all!

William Rast by Justin Timberlake

Not many people associated the edgy denim brand, William Rast, with heart-stealing pop icon, Justin Timberlake. Founded in 2005 with his childhood friend, Trace Ayala, the quirky name is a combination of their grandfathers’ surnames. William Rast started out as a denim-only brand, but it grew quickly to encompass other apparel categories, and appealed to the masses with its comfortable, high-quality and timeless designs.

Here’s a fun fact for you – did you know that William Rast jeans can be seen on almost every episode of the TV show Privileged? Lead actress, Joanna Garcia, was previously engaged to co-founder, Ayala until 2009.

L.A.M.B by Gwen Stefani

Can you believe that the Love.Angel.Music.Baby (L.A.M.B) fashion line has been around for 9 years now? Launched in 2003 by the ever popular No Doubt musician, Gwen Stefani, I remember the waves it made when it first launched, and fashion lovers worldwide were going crazy for the iconic L.A.M.B bags. Marrying eclectic style with her own personal touches, Stefani plays a huge role in her line and oversees every single stitch and intricate detail of the products manufactured.

L.A.M.B today has moved on to a more tailored, classic, sophisticated look from its earlier punk rock days, but Gwen still manages to appeal to everyone of all ages at the same time. Quirky, bold and definitely not boring, I expect L.A.M.B to be around for many, many more years to come!

Ivanka Trump by Ivanka Trump

Launched only a few months ago, Ivanka Trump’s namesake collection was warmly received by the fashion world. The swanky socialite and astute businesswoman made sure that her collection included a lot of classic, well-tailored designs for affordable prices ranging from USD$50 – $245. Ivanka’s entire collection ranges from clothing to shoes, handbags and jewelry and definitely showcases this stylish fashionista’s elegant, composed personality.

When asked why we should spend our hard earned dosh on his precious daughter’s new fashion line, Donald Trump remarked: “Because it’s the absolute finest in fashion at a reasonable price”. Hear, hear!

Twenty8Twelve by Sienna Miller

Last but not least, Twenty8Twelve is one of my top clothing lines to watch ever since they launched in 2007. Backed by Pepe Jeans, Sienna Miller’s modern, edgy label together with her sister, Savannah, perfectly embodies the actress’ bohemian flair. Now a global brand with three stand-alone retail boutiques in London, Twenty8Twelve has a very British air that exudes Miller’s personality all around.

The variety of looks available at Twenty8Twelve makes it a brand that’s accessible to everyone. With pieces delicately balancing the masculine and feminine made with luxurious European fabrics, Miller definitely knows a woman’s form and creates the most beautiful pieces that show off the perfect silhouette.
