Justin Yap is certainly no fresh face to the Malaysian fashion scene. A year into his fashion design course at Carven Ong Academy, he bagged the MIFA “Best Evening Wear Designer” award. One year later, his black-and-white collection at Carven’s 15th Anniversary event won him another Best Evening Gown award. In 2006, his collaboration with Tan Been Ting, local batik artist, brought them to the grand finals in the Piala Seri Endon Batik competition.

His creations have been featured on various notables, including Stella Matilda Lai when she was competing as Miss Borneo Tourism Queen International 2009.

His accolades are concentrated on eveningwear, so I was pleasantly surprised when I looked him up online and found albums of breathtaking shoes on his Facebook.

I also managed to snag a short interview with Justin:
What are you currently working on?
I showcased some of my latest collection during MODA’s 20th anniversary show and collaborated with Redken NY for a hair show. It was their 50th anniversary and the show was fantastic. They had a renowned Canadian Hair stylist, Sean Godard flown all the way from Toronto. We worked on a theme named “Urban Romance” and featured 14 distinctive looks!

I’ve been salivating over your new shoe collection. Where can I go to purchase your designs?
Thank you! My shoes are made exclusively to order. They are not mass produced, that way they are one of a kind. They spell the word “SEXY” (laughs). Lining made from the finest lambskin, they’re super soft. Comfort comes first when i design a pair of shoe. With my love of exotic leather, I’ve also used lots of genuine python skin in my designs. They’re farmed snakes so they’re not killed for the wrong reasons. One may order or buy off the rack at :-
