The future is bright and so are the February skies (at least in our corner of the universe)!  So shake off 2016, and march into Spring 2017 with a new outlook.

Here are 5 Spring 2017 sunglass trends we love:

#1 Kitty Posse

Show off your inner ‘meow’  and create your own kitty posse with Spring’s cat eye-inspired silhouettes. Transcending time, the look has been updated in monotone ‘bad-girl’ cool, or with touches of whimsy. Big or small, half-rimmed or full, in colours that cover the spectrum, cat eyes dominated the SS 2017 runways and will stick around for the rest of the year.

#2 Butterfly Wings

A follow-on trend from last season, the butterfly-wing silhouette continues to add drama in the sunglass realm. With dark lenses or light, whacky plastic frames or understated wire rims, butterflies populated the runway. We liked the minimalist look of Marco de Vincenzo’s understated thin-edged rims and Roberto Cavalli’s sheer be-studded butterfly.

#3 Circular Devotion

While cat eyes ruled the runway this season, perfectly circular lenses appeared with simple metal rims, double rims, retro-oversized looks (think 70’s) and futuristic variations. Lenses were super dark, but also came in lighter shades in all colours. Some circles even came with cat’s ears, the trends morphing one into another. Channel your inner Lennon in pale amber lenses or see the world in stripes with these fancy Fendis.

#4 Yellow Fever

Yellow is a strong colour coming through this season, so it’s natural for this golden hue to extend to eyewear. (Another trend we observed was eyewear that matched the colours of the outfit)!  Opt for yellow in the frame or the lens, (or both)!  We can’t get enough of Marni’s oversized sleep-mask take on the trend.

#5 Double-Wire

Double-wire rims stood out on the SS 2017 runways.  Funky wire rims going straight across the brow line, and even some mirroring the cat eye and butterfly wing trends were prominent. Phillip Lim brought in a touch of Spring with double-wire rim aviators in lilac. We see double-wires drawing attention while completing your OOTD with panache.
