SK-II celebrated 15 years of providing Malaysian women with crystal clear skin recently, hosting a massive showcase at Suria KLCC titled “My Skin Is My Proof,” chronicling SK-II’s heritage and breakthroughs in skin science, alongside stories of the brand’s ambassadors’–award-winning actor Angelica Lee Sinje and local singing legend Fauziah Latiff’s personal journeys of skin transformation through SK-II.
Later that evening, a Grand Anniversary Dinner was thrown for VIPs and the prestige brand’s most loyal users. And you can bet there are many more women in the country who wholeheartedly believe in SK-II, especially the Facial Treatment Essence, iconic enough to go by initials FTE, or just Miracle Water.
SK-II had its beginnings in the 1970’s, when a scientist discovered how elderly workers at a sake brewery in Japan had unusually soft and youthful hands.Years of research later, scientists managed to isolate the nutrient rich, natural ingredient Pitera, derived from the yeast fermentation process. The rest is modern skincare history. The brand grew into a household name in Japan then beyond, promising, and delivering crystal clear skin to women worldwide.
It’s a beauty non-secret that famed fashion make-up artist Pat McGrath applies SK-II masks on fashion week-weary models as part of her backstage prep, so they have glowy fresh skin on the runway.
With advertisement-worthy translucent skin (we’re sold!) enormous, expressive eyes and a delicate demeanour belying her heavy duty dramatic chops used to portray a range of characters, from naive to hardened and even harrowed in films like The Eye and 20, 30, 40, Kedah-born Angelica Lee Sinje is every bit the seasoned professional in the slew of group interview sessions she’s giving before the KLCC event.
Having used SK-II for a good 6 years, the film actor-artist-author talks passionately and genuinely about her affinity for the Japanese brand’s products, especially her beloved Facial Treatment Essence and the Cellumination Essence EX, a combo which she claims has given her fairer clearer skin with a marked radiance.
“I used to have very dry skin and clogged pores and my skin tone was uneven and dull due too much sun,” Sinje says. Within a year of using SK-II, she found that her skin wasn’t as dry anymore, and after years of having to go for painful facials to clear her clogged pores, she found it miraculous that with SK-II, they began to reduce significantly.
Now she uses the various ranges in SK-II to maintain her skin condition while in harsh conditions on set and in rapidly changing climates while travelling. “It’s good that there are different ranges, I use them to rescue my skin whenever it has problems,” she says. “When shooting Ice Kacang Puppy Love in Ipoh it was very sunny, so I used whitening masks everyday.”
TOP TIP: Apart from using Facial Treatment Essence as part of her regular skincare routine, Sinje also keeps a travel sized bottle close to refresh her skin whenever it needs an extra boost of hydration, and soaks cotton pads in the precious essence to create facial masks in flight.
Sinje intends to spend the next few months working on completing her paintings for the next exhibition, after which she’ll be back to a touring schedule to promote her latest film Inferno 3D. Wherever her multifarious exploits take her, we know she’ll be rocking crystal clear skin.
In conjunction with the 15th Anniversary celebrations, receive a sparkling limited edition Swarovski Elements jewellery set for purchases of RM1500 or more of SK-II products. Terms and conditions apply.
