If there’s anything fun about grocery shopping, it’s the fact that there are plenty of things you can buy that can also be used to create homemade beauty products. From luscious fruits to essential oils and even farm eggs, there’s bound to be a natural ingredient one can use to beautify the self. And since I enjoy experimenting, I decided to select five ingredients I bought from a local supermarket to see what I could do to my hair. So here’s what I discovered:

Using Eggs As Hair Conditioner
While I was initially grossed out about this one (due to the smell) I must admit, eggs are such a vital ingredient to have in the kitchen and on your hair. The richness of protein and fat somehow works well in moisturising all hair types. If you’ve got oily hair, the trick is to only use the egg white as conditioner, and if you’ve got dry hair, to use the yolk. But if you have a combination of both hair types, mix the yolk and egg white together!

Instructions
Step 1:
Crack the egg into a bowl and stir it up.
Step 2: Shampoo your hair as usual, then condition your hair with the egg mix.
Step 3: If you don’t like the after smell, my suggestion is to shampoo your hair again after.
Verdict: I had to shampoo my hair twice (before and after using the egg) because the smell was not appealing if I left it the way it was. But overall, I did feel an instant softness to the hair.

Mixing Aloe Vera, Lemon Juice & Coconut Oil To Reduce Hair Fall
First of all, let me just say that these three ingredients are just magical on their own. Aloe vera is a great skin repairer, and while lemon juice is known to help detoxify the body, coconut oil is great for a mouthwash. When you mix them all together, it helps out those experiencing hair loss!

Instructions
Step 1:
Mix 1/4 slice of aloe vera juice with 1/2 a table spoon of lemon juice.
Step 2: Add 2 table spoons of coconut oil into the mixture and stir.
Step 3: Apply mixture into scalp and hair, and leave in for 20 minutes.
Step 4: Wash your hair as usual after.
Verdict: While the effect and feeling to my hair was absolutely lovely, this treatment needs to occur more regularly in order for one to see the results.

Scrubbing Brown Sugar & Coconut Oil To Prevent An Oily Scalp
When I first discovered this home remedy I giggled a little, as I usually use brown sugar to mix it with my coffee. But I suppose I could put some into a bowl and add coconut oil on my head to see if it will magically get rid of my oily scalp. I got this recipe from Love Natural Sunshine but tweaked it a little, substituting olive oil with coconut oil, but feel free to use the original recipe as an option.

Step 2: Part your hair in six sections so that your scalp is visible.
Step 3: Take the mixture and massage gently into scalp in circular motion for about two to three minutes.
Step 4: Rinse well and shampoo and condition as normal after.
Verdict: My scalp felt amazing after scrubbing, and immediately less oily.
