Kookie Buhain a.k.a deathbyplatforms is one of my favorite Chictopians because she demonstrates style know-hows and that anyone can look like a model-off-duty, even on a budget. She makes the fashion world swoon over her clean-cut lines, monochrome chic and artistic flair. Her tendency to tie up tailored menswear items with femine body-con dresses and accessories  show an innate and impressive understanding of fashion. Surely, this Chictopia style icon has successfully found a platform for expressing her personal style. Take a look at what this stylista had to say.

1. How would you describe your personal style?

I don’t have a set fashion style. It varies depending on the season, on the trend or even on my mood. Right now though, I’m channeling a bit of Euro street chic and 80s punk style. You’ll see mostly blazers, various plain white tops, acid washed or leather bottoms, cropped tops, denim shorts, lace up boots and platforms. I also have a predilection towards clothes that have unique details on it… be it the cut, color, print or materials used. What has been consistent though in terms of my personal style is that I’ve always looked and would always want to look put together in whatever outfit I’m wearing.

2. What inspires your style?

I get most of my inspiration from the fashionable ladies (and gents) of Chictopia and other fashion blogs. I also love skimming through various fashion magazines for fashion ideas.

3. Who are your fashion icons and why?

I admire the fashion sensibilities of the following style savants: Emmanuelle Alt for her impeccable rocker chic style; the petite Miroslava Duma for her versatile dressing; Erin Wasson and Rumi Neely for their laidback, undone but edgy style; Karla Deras for always snagging the most fabulous vintage pieces and the Olsen twins for being just so damn… fashionably cool!

4. Who are your favorite designers and why?

I really don’t have a favorite designer but I applaud Christophe Decarnin of Balmain for bringing forth edgy-wear through bold shoulders and Alexander Wang for making the plain white tank such a highly coveted item. For shoes though, I am into Christopher Kane, Nicholas Kirkwood, Andreas Melbostad for PHI and Ciege Cagalawan – all for their one-of-a-kind shoe designs.

5. Where do you usually shop and what do you usually shop for?

Gojane.com for shoes; Zara, Topshop and Mango for tops and bottoms; Forever 21 for fancy jewelry and other accessories; bazaars for cheap finds and Ukay-Ukays or thrift stores for unique, vintage pieces.

6. What is your shopping philosophy?

If you like it and you have money for it, buy it pronto! Haha! I’m such an impulsive buyer and I’m already regretting it big time. I really need to be a smart shopper if I want to own a nice house by the beach in the future. Saving up is such a chore. Haha!

7. What are your favorite trends this season?

Bold shoulders; military-inspired fashion; anything ripped, studded and chained; leather and lace; feathers and velvet.

8. What decade of fashion do you admire?

Hmmm…can I say 2000? Only because all of the most amazing fashion styles of the past decades have been brought back and reinvented in the current decade. 2000 is really a mash up of all things wonderful.

9. What would you never be caught wearing?

I will say this with utmost conviction! I will never be caught wearing Crocs!!! They’re just plain horrendous!

10. What was your most recent purchase, and what are you planning to splurge on next?

Recent purchase: a pair of leather wedge booties and leather pants! I’m loving leather right now! What I’m saving up for: a DSLR, a laptop and my boy’s bass guitar.
