Where the celebrity trendset flock each April, Coachella is the ultimate yardstick for what’s to come for the rest of the year’s festival-gear. This year, for the first weekend in particular, we were delighted to see Cali get trendy, updating run-of-the mill festival wares with hot-off-the-runway style. Here, Jeremy Scott and Lindsay Lohan wear close to every Coachella and Spring/Summer ’12 trend between them. At the jump, how stylistas successfully pulled each of them off.
First things first, sugary pastels were full in bloom. If not colour-blocked or in ombre gradients, most pastels came speckled with sweet liberty prints.
Denim and studs were utilised to give the look a little more street cred.
Meanwhile, the method of choice to baring midriffs was with crochet or lace over the festival-practical bikini (which we’d like to think was in chic reference to Louis Vuitton’s Spring/Summer 2o12 collection) …
… Though equally as many ladies were spotted modestly layering their bare midriffs with an over-sized wrap.
While bright flashes of neon also came into play for a quick and easy modern update, pairing the trend with clean white cuts (and mullet hems) dabbled into sporty territory.
Layering utilitarian pieces over feminine accents were also explored, making rough and tumble a cutesy girly affair.
And last but not least, statement prints were used to up-style otherwise basic outfits.
How to follow on trend, you might ask? This year, we’d point you to Kate Bosworth’s effortless, but practical style (Note updating basics with a statement overshirt, accessorising animal print with neon, and wearing a cinched floral dress under an oversized coat and rubber boots).
As you venture into trending fashion gear for the coming year, keep in mind that the idea is to have fun with your look – not to enable passersby to make fun of it!
With that, we wrap up our trend round up, excited with all the Style Snaps we’ll get of how you wear these trends for the remaining festivals of the year.
