With over 50 designers, young, upcoming and established, showcasing their work at the runway of Malaysia-International Fashion Week, overwhelming would be the adjective at play here if one were viewing it all in plain sight. Which is why this handy cheat sheet exists. Taking a fine tooth to the designers and their creations, here are three trends condensed and ready to swallow, as seen at M-IFW 2011.
1. High Slits

Young Designers - Justin Chew & Alan Ooi

Alia Bastamam
Time to break out the running shoes and pound the pavement if you’re going to get your legs toned for the sexy slits that are predicted our way. Seen on modern baju kurungs at Asian Atelier to elegant-yet-eyebrow-raising gowns from Alia Bastamam, get poised to show some skin – but only one leg at a time!
2. Sheer Detailing

Nue by Jonathan Liang | Joe Chia
As women continue the debate on what to wear under sheer, in the case of Nue by Jonathan Liang, a black strapless bra is deemed the perfect fit, Joe Chia includes the boys in the loop. So now the question begs, do you six-pack it up or layer with an undershirt?

Villiam Ooi | PU3
The devil may be in the details, and where the devil lies, so does sheer detailing, seen in glimpses on sleeves in PU3, on the bodice of Nue creations, on the nude-toned draped designs of Nurita Harith and as part of a peplum skirt ensemble in Villiam Ooi.
3. Peekaboo Bodice

Amir Luqman | Alia Bastamam
It’s a sexy sideshow with the peekaboo bodice that teased the runways of Alia Bastamam and Amir Luqman. Seen in contrasting fabric and colour, this cheeky trend is one that will have many popping out of their seats.
