Posted by karen wong on May 4, 2011

Like a flame that may have burned out yet which warmth remains, Alexander McQueen‘s presence in the fashion industry remains steadfast and indisputable. He was the winning choice for the royal wedding and as the honoured subject at this year’s MET exhibition, Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty, the spotlight is cast upon McQueen’s immense talent and skill, from his postgraduate debut in 1992 to his final runway collection last spring.

No surprise then that McQueen was the choice of many stylistas and stylemakers at the MET Ball 2011. Here are our top 10 favourite McQueen creations as seen at the event that happened yesterday.

    10. Naomi Campbell

Naomi Campbell’s McQueen couture dress was a reminder of the close friendship that the supermodel and designer shared.

    9. Chloe Sevigny

The lace overlay on this McQueen dress as worn by Chloe Sevigny was very reminiscent of one royal wedding dress.

    8. Salma Hayek

The peach organza McQueen Spring/Summer 2011 dress molded itself onto Salma Hayek’s petite yet voluptuous frame.

    7. Hilary Rhoda

Looking the picture of health, model Hilary Rhoda in a distinctive sharply tailored McQueen creation made unfinished hemlines couture for the night.

    6. Gisele Bundchen

Wearing a McQueen fishtail gown from his Autumn/Winter 2005-6 collection, Gisele Bundchen showed us that drama was in the sleek sizzling details.

    5. Daphne Guinness

On anyone else the lilac feathered McQueen gown would have looked out of place but eccentric heiress, Daphne Guinness, manages to make the outfit look both demure and dramatic at the same time.

    4. Sarah Jessica Parker

The silver embellished form-fitting dress from McQueen’s Autumn/Winter 2005-6 collection was Sarah Jessica Parker’s deserving pick for the night.

    3. Anna Dello Russo

Clad almost entirely in Alexander McQueen’s latest Spring/Summer 2011 collection (sans the Alan Journo egg hat), Anna Dello Russo reaffirmed her status as one of the hottest stylemakers around town.

    2. Liu Wen and Constance Jablonski

The new faces of Estee Lauder, Liu Wen and Constance Jablonski both looked amazing in McQueen gowns.

    1. Karen Elson

British supermodel Karen Elson wore the same gold foiled McQueen dress which she modelled for on the Spring/Summer ’04 runways.

While McQueen was the toast of the MET ball, here were some other looks that vied for the limelight:

Diane Kruger in Jason Wu // Emma Stone in Lanvin

Dianna Agron in Michael Kors // Christina Ricci in Zac Posen

Madonna in Stella McCartney // Jessica Stam in Tommy Hilfiger

Ginnifer Goodwin in Topshop Unique // Ciara in Prabal Gurung
