Just like its name, Runway 101 is a model search event that serves as a platform for female students of HELP University College to bring out their hidden talents and passion to become a model.
Cooked up last year by the IPRMsa (Institute of Public Relations Malaysia students association) students of HELP University College, it started out humbly in the college hall. For its second season, they have gone bigger and better – obviously with higher stakes as well. 50 students auditioned, leaving 22 who made the cut for the semi-finals and only 12 finalists will then get the chance to walk for the finale night last week on 15th October 2010. For this year, the glittering grand prize includes RM129 worth of Crocs voucher, RM 1,000 in cash, RM 650 worth of portfolio shoot by Baddogz Studio and RM 2,500 voucher redeemable for at Amir Luqman’s boutique.
The finale night was held at Damansara Community Hall with over 300 guests. The glamorous student event was opened by dance crew, Inversion and then followed by a few speeches by Commander Anthony and organising chairperson, Dennis Khor.

On front row, sat guest judges Amir Luqman – celebrated Malaysian fashion designer who designed the winning gown specifically for the event, Andrea Fonseka – Miss Malaysia Universe 2004, Andrew Tan – founder of prominent modeling management and productions company Andrews Models and lastly producer, actor and director, Hans Isaac.

Afterthe usual formalities, the 12 finalists immediately walked down the runway in the simplest attire to show their natural faces and silhouettes.

Followed by the third and last change, evening gowns by Oscar Design, who was one of the sponsors of the night.
Before presenting the winner, the organising committee presented a mock cheque of RM5,500 to Mercy Malaysia and to the audience surprise, Hans Isaac doubled the amount to RM11,000!
Finally, it came to the end of the night and the host announced “Audience’s Favourite Model” who went to Melanie Teo.
