Back with sharp suits, good fit and urban style, Men’s Fashion Week returns with its second edition in Singapore this year at Marina Bay Sands from the 18th to 22nd April 2012. Having enjoyed a successful launch last year, this year’s event will once again celebrate the best in menswear, with a range of designers hailing from Europe – UK, France and Germany, as well as Asia – Korea, Singapore and Japan.
Kicking off MFW with a bang at the Opening Gala on 18th April, Spencer Hart, the go-to couture designer to A-Listers like Jay Z and Kanye West and a firm designers favourite, Tommy Hilfiger and Matthew Williamson are fans, will show for the first time in Asia. His bespoke designs have graced many an international red carpet, including the BAFTA’s and the Oscars, so one can only expect a polished show to befit the sartorial tastebuds of the urban male.
Also showing at the Opening Gala is Korean label Songzio, who has found success in both Korea and Paris and counts itself the label of choice for top South Korean stars like 2PM, Rain and Super Junior. Other runway highlights we’re excited to see are Japanese streetwear label, Diet Butcher Slim Skin, edgy Korean label, Resurrection that counts Lady Gaga and Marilyn Manson as fans as well as the 2010 recipient of the CFDA Best Menswear Designer Award, Richard Chai.
Taking a quick glance at the event schedule, one could almost be mistaken to think that the ‘M’ in MFW represented music. While our personal experience with fashion shows intermixed with music performances has never been a positive one, perhaps these Japanese and Korean pop stars that include Royal Pirates and 8eights slated to entertain between shows may actually be a nice nod to the nationality of their fellow countryfolk designers.
