For quite some time now, I’ve had troubles trying to define our style era. The past ten years have been incredibly, fashionably erratic, so much so that I have no idea what we’ll be most proud of remembering from the noughties. I even tried asking The Misshapes, who simply replied that it was just about using past references to push boundaries. But since I’m not satisfied with their answer, I’m asking you (just for fun) today.

NYMag recently compiled a trend list for the decade, which proved my theory of it being indistinct. We went from baggy, saggy jeans…

To skinnies.

And from trucker trailer trash…

To avant garde futurism.

And somewhere in between, we thought Crocs and Uggs,

and being anorexic were good ideas.

Completely confuzzled (confused and puzzled), I decided to make a fashion evolution chart. I deduced that we went from skater punk, to trailer trash, to biker hippie, to structured with leggings, then structured completely bottomless.

I came to conclude that the fashion era of the 2000s should be defined as the Olsen years. Because between the both of them, they went through everything that was right and wrong about our decade.

But I still don’t know what truly defined this decade’s fashion. What do you think is sooooo the noughties? What will you remember from the 2000′s? And what should we leave behind as nostalgia? Just for fun, let’s discuss what made the decade!
