Just-For-Fun Friday: Kate’s Dress

by on .

My dear readers, we’ve officially just caught a glimpse of what Kate Middleton chose to wear for her big day! We’re talking the dress that’s expected to shape bridal styles for years to come here, so it’s an especially exciting time! To commemorate, I thought we’d take a quick look back at all we’ve speculated and anticipated over the past few months to discuss what we think of this culminated moment. Just for fun, let’s talk Kate Middleton’s wedding gown!

Just yesterday, a mystery lady was spotted entering the Goring hotel where Middleton was staying the night before the wedding. Many a fashionista swiftly identified her as Sarah Burton, creative director of Alexander McQueen, citing her silver belt and penchant for cropped jeans and flats as proof.

Turns out they were right; to my absolute delight! Middleton chose a McQueen and reportedly a team of 60 to embroider it!

The dress has drawn many comparisons with Grace Kelly’s wedding dress, when she became the Princess of Monaco for the tasteful conservative chic vibes. Perhaps she identified with the commoner-turned-royal Kelly on some level?

All the while, other designers had stepped forward over the past few months to present their wedding gown predictions and reccomendations.

Chanel saw Middleton in a Victorian gown with a contemporary open front, while Lacroix envisioned an Elizabethan top cinched into a Victorian gown under Queen Elizabeth’s veil.

Missoni, Vera Wang and Rachel Roy each saw her paying tribute to traditional British styles with a slight modern romantic twist.

Monique Lhuillier, Nina Ricci and Alberta Ferretti however, saw her sticking with her penchant for understated romantic layers.

In the mean time, Gucci and J.Crew both saw her completely resurfacing the structure of Princess gowns to pave way for modern minimalistic cuts.

What had you predicted? Was it all you anticipated? What did you expect instead? Just for fun, let’s discuss!
