Craft Party with Mimpi Murni (MY)

by on .

As a self-professed hypersomniac, I don’t usually wake up in the morning feeling like P. Diddy. Few little things can motivate me to get up before 10 am on a weekend, however when news of a Craft Party hosted by Mimpi Murni spread our way, I gladly volunteered myself for this assignment. A zombie amoeba plush toy created from a previous craft party sits in my room and I was excited to see what would join the collection next. That is how I found myself at Wondermilk Cafe, Damansara Utama, on a Sunday morning, bleary-eyed and dazed yet tingling with nervous excitement at what the day would entail.

Inspired by Etsy’s Craft Party, Murni Roslim, of whimsical blogshop Mimpi Murni, branched out with a local version of the idea and that is where the scene is set. The cosy atmosphere of Wondermilk made the cafe the pefect venue for this intimate gathering of like-minded craftmakers.

The registration fee of RM30 ensured that each goer would be well-stocked with a range of inspiration as well as a drink and cupcake of choice. I must say, cupcakes and craft are perhaps one of my new favouite reasons to wake up on an early Sunday morning.

The craft project for the day was a decoupage tealight candle holder. Decoupage is a method of decorating an object by gluing and sealing paper cutouts onto it. The collage papers that were provided in the registration package provided a great start to the project, but we were also encouraged to bring our own materials – be it paper clippings, magazines or other visuals.

With Murni’s gentle instructions, the crowd set off to put their artistic inspirations on to a tealight holder. Over the course of two hours, new friendships were forged and craft was made as everyone bonded in the quaint comforts of Wondermilk Cafe. Murni was ever ready to assist with any queries, helping set the comfortable feel of the craft party.

As an additional spice to the day’s activities, Murni also incorporated some extra activities. Each table was given the task of coming up with a group name and slogan or logo. With latent creativity surrounding this group, it’s no wonder the results were greatly inspired!

The winner of the group was Whimsical Wonder, and each team member walked away with 30% off the next Mimpi Murni purchase. But the treats did not stop there, for a quick round of “Find the double key sticker” found new owners for Murni’s handmade hairclips.

The craft party ended with a ton of smiles and good vibes in the air as well as the pressing question about when the next one would be held. Murni says she aims to host such parties every two months but the best way to keep in the know is to visit the HandmadeKL website.

Murni is taking all suggestions for what the next craft party will be. Sewing, scrapbooking, more decoupaging? Send in your craft wishes her way over here.
