As one of the 2012 New Year’s resolutions made at the turn of the new year, quality over quantity has been the driving force behind restrained shopping sprees and careful closet curation. Quality though, isn’t just a reference to the price tag. Types of materials used, as well as longevity, both in design and in out-lasting trends come into play. Celebrating this notion, non-profit environmental organization, EcoKnights, have returned with this year’s edition of The Anugerah Hijau, Green Awards, which casts a nationwide search for green warriors with creative and innovative ideas to address environment issues.
Open to all youths from age 14 to 29 and divided into three categories, the first, Green Fashion seeks out burgeoning designers with a streak of green in them. Participants will have to channel their inner Lagerfeld and sketch a design that contains at least 70% of everyday and discarded materials.
For film buffs and budding architects with a green bone, hear the call of the Green Video and Green Space categories that celebrates an environmental message through script as well as physical space respectively. The ten selected finalists in each category will be given a RM500 grant to make their design a reality as well as a 3D/2N workshop on environment.
With mentorship from industry stalwarts that include creator of international sustainable label, Ultra, Tengku Chanela Jamidah; president and founder of EcoKnights, Yasmin Rasyid; local film maker, Lara Ariffin; and model and fashion show producer, Daren Lee, prospective eco-warriors are in good hands.
On the mantle up for grabs is cash and prize amounting to RM8,000 in each category. And let’s not forget the pride and honour of being knighted an eco-warrior. The last day to get your submissions to this competition is Friday, 18th May 2012. If you have any queries or confusion, direct them to firstname.lastname@example.org.
