For the style obsessed with less-than-perfect vision (like me), glasses are a huge potential-signature-accessory. Just over the past week I’ve spied some of the coolest prescription eyewear frames on people in KL. Whether they were dual toned, in vintage shapes, or had awesome colours, the pieces spoke about the wearers in the way that watches and bags –other signature pieces, often do.
So they better be rad.
Enter eyewear brands that offer pieces that are well made, ooze style, and for everyone, from the perennial party starter to the self-imposed wallflower.
First up is New York City eyewear company that counts Sarah Jessica Parker and Johnny Depp as customers. We love the vintage themed MOSCOT Originals line from the family owned business for bold frames with timeless appeal in their acetate bones. Their more contemporary cousins from the MOSCOT Spirit line have thinner rims and more restrained shapes.
MOSCOT eyewear is available on their website. Just input your eyeglass prescription details and they’ll ship right to your door. Additionally, if you’re in Singapore, you can pick them up at the four stores here.
Oliver Peoples Vintage
Oliver Peoples was founded in 1986 by brothers Larry and Dennis Leight when they opened up their dream optical boutique on Sunset Boulevard. After about a year, they began creating their own line, inspired by the designs of an estate lot of mint condition 1940s-1960s eyewear they purchased.
Twenty four years, many new frames and even more celebrity clients later, Larry has gone back to explore his personal archive of designs to bring back three brand defining styles. The full Oliver Peoples Vintage collection is available at CROSSOVER in Aeon Tebrau City, JB.
RVS by V
The first eyewear company to be based out of Istanbul, RVS by V has been supplying its brand of handmade matt eyewear since 2006. Vintage eyewear Founder Vidal Erkhoven’s vision to produce eyewear built to last a lifetime is evident in the quality of these as well as the classic cool styles that they come in -bound to impress, whatever fashion’s current mood.
RVS by V ships limited frames worldwide through their vintage shop, but friends in Hong Kong can get prescription lenses fitted at Visual Culture Optical.
Okay I admit. The above glasses are great, but also considerably pricier than the ones at your local optometrist. The solution? Go with USD $99 ones that are just as great. BonLook has fantastic looking frames that come in an array of styles and colors, good for everyday wear, and most importantly, won’t break the bank. Head over to their easy-to-navigate website to order. They ship worldwide!
