If you haven’t been paying attention already, The Cooler Lumpur Festival will make its triumphant return to Publika under the theme “Dangerous Ideas”. The ideas festival will run from June 12-14 with an unprecedented variety of workshops, film screenings, book launches and a cornucopia of other arts and writing activities.

Come by our very own pop-up selfie cafe with Room 203 on the Boulevard (next to the EnglisherJer exhibit) for coffee, conversation or both! What’s a Selfie Cafe you ask? Well, instead of pulling your wallets out of your pockets and purses for a drink, snap a selfie and we’ll get you one on the house! We might also throw in some free stickers.

Here are a few (and we mean a few) highlights for the festival:

My Most Dangerous Idea: A conversation with Tun Dr Mahathir bin Mohamad
Tun M is going to be in the house, talking to us about his most dangerous idea. What that is, you’ll have to find out on the night – but sign up quick, because spaces are limited to the first registered 200.

Sick & Twisted Comedy Night by Time Out KL
Keeping  in line with the “Dangerous Ideas” theme, Sick & Twisted, which originally had its first run in 2012, returns with another night of risque stand-up. Trust us when we say these aren’t jokes you’d like to hear your grandma telling. The event will be hosted by Prakash Daniel and will feature comedians, Phoon Chi Ho, Thenesh Skip, Sim Tong, Matt Bellotti, Justin Heyes and Keren Bala.

If live music is more your thing, The Wknd Sessions will be featuring a number of Malaysians acts, now recorded in front of a live audience. Be a part of the audience and support your local groove-makers and serenaders.

BUMP IN THE NIGHT!
End the night with some heart-racing horror tales. Not for the faint of heart, this small and intimate gathering with some great story-tellers of Malaysia will make you wish you brought a pair of adult diapers. Persons under 18 are not recommended to attend.

Star Wars and Shakespeare: A Conversation with Ian Doescher
Ian Doescher, author of “William Shakespeare’s Star Wars: Verily, a New Hope” takes a franchise with one of the most loyal fanbases in science-fiction and molds it into the style of Shakespeare. Ian will discuss the similarities between the works of Shakespeare and the world of Star Wars.

Film Screening: The Look of Silence by Joshua Oppenheimer
Documentary buffs can look forward to an exclusive screening of Joshua Oppenheimer‘s follow-up to the Oscar-nominated documentary, ‘The Act of Killing‘, which details the events that occurred during the 1965 Indonesian genocide. A Q&A session via Skype will also be taking place after the screening.
