TiC Pick: Setareh Mohtarez
I was a tiny tot, around the age of 5 when I discovered how mesmerising the skyline is when night falls and stars come out to play. It was no wonder that my favourite nursery rhyme happened to be 'Twinkle Twinkle Little Star'. When my dad got me my first Guiness Book of World Records in 1997, I would gaze for hours at the pictures taken of the Milky Way and its other neighbouring galaxies. So one could only imagine my surprise when I stumbled upon Setareh Mohtarez's Brightness Dawn Collection on Luxirare. A cosmic wonder indeed!
Rest in Peace Alexander McQueen - Our Tribute Wall
Today is a sad day in the world of fashion. Lee Alexander McQueen - an icon, hero and the reason why we see fashion from a whole different perspective every time he launches his masterpiece creations, has passed on the 11th of February 2010.

Q+A: edit'd
It is refreshing to find something just a little different in Hong Kong other than the commercially produced clothing that seems to be everywhere. Helene Ang, both founder and the creative force behind the label edit'd, offers one-of-a-kind repurposed and upcycled vintage and reclaimed clothing - each with its own story. Her debut collection, launched earlier this year, was well received in Hong Kong and following that success, she has just launched her own website. I invite Helene out for a coffee and chat to find out more about edit'd.

Q+A: The Living Room Craft Market
For a fashion and art obsessed city such as Hong Kong, one would surely expect that there would be a place where creativity, handmade and fun could be showcased on a regular basis. On this writer's arrival to Hong Kong, it was disappointing to find that there was a lack of such an avenue and that the handmade movement was virtually non-existent.
Thus, it was refreshing to stumble across The Living Room Craft Markets - a new event in Hong Kong with the aim of bringing together creativity, handmade, art and music (oh and did we mention booze?). Click to read our interview with founder Awon Golding.
Nurita Harith New Collection
Last seen showing at MIFW: Ten Rising Stars, Nurita Harith is back witha lighter and brighter collection that runs on the colour blocking trend. In contrast to her fitted dresses and skin tight pants last season, these slouchy pieces will be ready mid June. You can also expect them (and more) at a TiC event in July (that we're still in the midst of planning shh!).

Puma x Sergio Rossi
I just love collaborations between high end designers and sportswear brands! High end shoes and bags designer Sergio Rossi designed a ladies collection for Puma Spring/Summer 2009. The Clyde collection, inspired by the iconic basketball legend Walt 'Clyde' Frazier, features flat and high heeled sneakers.

A Dollop Of Flamboyance & A Pinch Of Quirk
Mondays are always the busiest days in the week when everyone's back in blogdom and there's so much news whizzing on fashion blogs, emails and Facebook that an unavoidable ten tabs will be open in my Firefox window. Here are two things that caught my eye today - a bag that is the epitome of flamboyance, and new hats in Lush Icon by QXOTIQ.

Q+A: Nik Erwan Roseli
We recently spoke about local fashion designer Nik Erwan Roseli who showed at the last Malaysian International Fashion Week (MIFW / MIFA) and is quickly catching attention in the Malaysian fashion scene. Q+A: Sabrina Goh
Our sneaky suspicions led us to believe that Sabrina Goh, designer of Singapore-based label ELOHIM, is Malaysian... and we were smugly right! With the current hype buzzing around the LASALLE-SIA graduate’s latest collection, we at Tongue in Chic could not help but corner the talented designer for a quick and fanciful bite of Sabrina Goh.

The Lady Down At Fuchsia Lane
Have you ever been to Fuchsia Lane? It is the heart, soul and sweat of industrial designer Vivienne Lin. Trained as an industrial designer for 4 years, with a 6-month attachment to a design university in Milan and a grueling internship in a fashion magazine, Vivienne was inspired to start her own label, establishing Fuchsia Lane in March 2007.

NY Highlight: Catherine Holstein

It’s true, fashion week is overwhelming as you file away one after another must-have item into your brain. But have you ever felt like possessing every single piece in a designer’s collection? Maybe now you will.

Upcoming: Yumumu
By: Yu Shan

With her website just launched a few weeks ago, Singaporean multi-talent Yumumu's debut collections are dedicated to the flatnesss of paperdolls and traditional twists. Radiating a firm presence that every design detail must be backed with reason, the brand's name is no exception.
Yu,mu,mu means "Rain, Wood, Wood" in Mandarin; and those three Chinese radicals come together to form the 'Lin' character in designer Yilin's name.
Tongue in Chic interviews the busy artist on her new baby brand and her background.

The Rise and Rise of Nurita Harith
By: Anna T.

A fashion student living in Britain, Nurita was an avid hunter of everything avant garde and vintage. While she juggled school and her job at Topshop, she experimented with every amazing haircut you could imagine. She donned customized sequined tops, gorgeously obese fake lashes and black leggings before Sienna Miller could even dream about Edie Sedgwick’s black opaque tights. It was then clear that in Myspace-World, she was the queen bee of Malaysian style because no one was doing anything like that just yet.
Koi Suwannagate
By: May Lin Tang

It comes as no surprise that Asian designers are taking the spotlight away from their American and European counterparts in the world of fashion. Also refreshing is watching a new crop of designers emerge in the stratospheres of high fashion and ready-to-wear, their apparel making us to coo and marvel over.
Dude & The Duchess
Here’s the truth about Malaysians; we avoid Malaysian-made products like a woman scorned. We splurge on expensive international magazines, fight for foreign faces to parade in local advertisements, buy anything sold by an European dude with a Jamaican accent… Heck, most of the women I know are dyed blonde and tickled pink by the fact that they are unable to differentiate the Malaysian flag from the American flag.
Now meet Richard Tsen, the design mastermind behind Dude & The Duchess. Richard is an established local designer who made his name in the Singapore fashion industry, and a truly impeccable personality to spend an hour with. When asked about the brand, a collaboration with Benjamin Yong and Benedict Read of the Delicious Group, he exhaled slowly… and proceeded to indulge me in the whirlwind concept that is Dude & The Duchess.
