While matchy-matchy eyeshadow, lipstick and clothes are still a no-no, the trend gods have given us the green light to match lips and tips – fingertips that is.
It may seem that the trend has been awakened by one too many episodes of Mad Men. But make no mistake, this is not the matchy-matchy of yesteryear. Any trend worth its salt should never make a verbatim comeback. Think brights, pastels and even sheers instead of merely opaque reds or pinks. Anything goes.
The trend also signals a throwback to one made popular by a 1952 Revlon ad. The “Fire & Ice” ad campaign went on air with then “It” girl Dorian Leigh wearing a red lippie and red nail polish.
The look Leigh and Revlon pioneered that decade has made a comeback this season on runways and in the beauty halls alike. Some brands like MAC have dedicated entire collections to this while other brands like Dior have merely created formulas with matching names as part of their permanent collection, leaving it up to you to mix or match.
What is your take on the trend? Yay or nay?
