1. Pastels and Neons are this Spring/Summer 2012 Colour Trends

We’ve basically laid out everything that we can for this year’s spring/summer collections -fashion trends, wardrobe essentials, type of shoes and bags and will be big this year. We’re going to round it up by introducing the beauty trends for this year’s spring/summer collections, and we foresee lots of falling head over heels for these colours and items!

This year’s spring/summer beauty trends could not have differed more – most of the designers favoured iridescent pastel hues across the colour palette, but pinks and greens have come above the rest. They produce a very flattering mirage of colours when blended well together, and so far, it has worked on most skin tones.

    Shu Uemura’s Spring 2012
collection has that, and more – pinks and greens are definitely one of their top choices, but complemented with lilacs, subtle peach tones and baby blues. To mimic their cleaner and more feminine look, go light on the eyeliner, or stay off it altogether. Put it in extra effort on your lashes though and give your peepers that extra boost that they might need!

Jumping on the bandwagon with cooler tones of greens and pinks is Lancome with their Roseraie des Delices Makeup Collection (loosely translated from French, ‘Rose Garden of Delights’) for Spring 2012. Even though they have stuck to the theme of invoking inspiration from gardens as per Dior, who has also highlighted pinks and greens in their Spring 2012 beauty palettes, they have done so by tweaking the undertones of said pinks and greens. Instead of going down the road of extremely bright pastels, Lancome went for a more flirtatious and genteel outlook with this collection.

On the opposite side of the spectrum, the neon shades are taking over control. Seen on the runway flattering the likes of Marni and Derek Lam, neon colours have been making a rather significant comeback alongside the reemergence of the pastels. A very good collection to highlight this current beauty trend would be the Bobbi Brown’s Neons and Nudes Collection, entirely based upon the saying of Bobbi Brown, “The most modern way to wear bright color is as an accent on an otherwise neutral face”, and we reckon if its good enough for the designers to use on runways, then it’s good enough for us.

These colour trends were not only reflected on the faces of the runways, but also on the apparel themselves.

Neon colours are seen all over the runway for Spring/Summer 2012, not just in tiny little splashes but big, bold, full-on neon pieces of garments.

Pastels also dominated the runway, albeit a little less loud than the neons, but in no way any less prominent. Both Marc Jacobs and Ralph Lauren’s collections consist of mainly pastel shades – some iridescent, some embellished, some with cooler/warmer undertones, but one thing’s for sure – the pastels, are here to stay.
