Maybelline Magnum Volum’ Express Super Film Mascara
Claims: The Magnum Super Film is a tubing mascara that promises a smudge-proof formula that is resistant to sweat and tear, coming off easy in the shower with warm water. Said to possess incredible volumnizing power, with 9X the effect, the Magnum Super Film comes with the Magnum Brush, slightly curved to cover your entire lash in one swoop.

Verdict: While the mascara did deliver volume, it didn’t quite pack the punch expected, definitely not the 9X promised. The formula was rather clumpy and heavy on lashes as well, leading to the need of a lash comb to separate lashes. It wasn’t wholly effective against smudging either – perhaps due to the nature of oily lids. It does however, come out very easily with warm water, which leads to a hassle-free night time routine. We’d recommend it for a natural day-time look.
Maybelline Magnum Volum’ Express Waterproof Mascara
Claims: While they may look similar in packaging, the similarities between this mascara and the Super Film start and stop at the Magnum Brush – all the better for easy application from root to tip. This formula is not only waterproof but allegedly delivers 7X volume for lush, smudge-proof collagen-enriched plump lashes that can withstand any weather.

Verdict: We were left a happy camper with the overall effects of the Maybelline Magnum Volum’ Express Waterproof mascara. Lashes had added volume and though it wasn’t mentioned in the claims, also had a pleasant lengthening effect. The solid black formula also gave more drama to the eyes. The formula was less clumpy than the Super Film though further coats may prove to test that claim. The waterproof formula left no smudges and held curl throughout the day. It removes easily with oil-based eye make-up remover.
It would seem between the battle of the Magnum Volum’ Express, the Waterproof mascara comes out tops. But how will it fare when pitched against the new Maybelline Volum’ Express Falsies Waterproof mascara?

Claims: Promising to substitute the need for false eyelashes, the Maybelline Volum’ Express Falsies Waterproof mascara contains a Pro-Keratin formula that builds volume to create 300% more visible lashes, fuller lashes without any gaps or clumps. The spoon brush with the slight curve captures lashes from corner-to-corner and lifts and separate the most minute of lashes.

Verdict: So does this mascara replace the need for false eyelashes? Yes and no. If you’re in the camp who uses falsies to mask sparse and short lashes, this mascara makes for a solid replacement. There is much volume and length and the mascara delivers an all-round lift to lashes of varied lengths, as promised. However, if you prefer your falsies thick and packed with drama, this mascara will appear unsatisfactory. It delivers an improved effect to lashes, but without the oomph that comes with glued-on falsies.
It’s also better at separating lashes than the Maybelline Magnum Volum’ Express Waterproof mascara with less clumps which makes it the final winner in this Maybelline Mascara Madness!

While none of these mascaras held any lash-curling properties, they were quite effective with holding curls. What they did boast of was volume, and that they did deliver, though not always as promised.

- Maybelline Falsies Volum’ Express Waterproof: Great for those with short and thin lashes that need a boost. A single coat will give it a natural looking extension and volumn. Further coats are no worries as the formula defies clumping and flaking. Great for those who’ve always wanted to try false eyelashes but never knew how to.
