Last Thursday, I headed over to Pavillion KL for M.A.C‘s preview of their Autumn/Winter 09 collection. With the theme ‘Style Black’, the line took inspiration from the sombre weather and shorter days of the colder seasons and cast focus on the mysterious and (surprisingly) versatile colour.
To fit the theme of the new line, the dresscode for the event was black. I’ve realized lately that the fashion industry seems pretty obsessed over the slimming allure of the colour black, and I must say I’ve never exactly been drawn to the tone until now!

At the preview party, guests were invited to try on M.A.C. products and M.A.C beauty artists were on hand to assist those who wanted a first-hand go with the new line.
To get the party started, the Lapsap duo decided to set the mood with fun, body shaking numbers and occasionally the M.A.C staff would do a round of cheers and catcalls to keep energy levels pumping.
I had a short chat with M.A.C senior artist, Yokoe Chan, who clued me in on the main trends for M.A.C’s Style Black Autumn/Winter collection.
There are two key features in Style Black; strong lips and ‘Lid Vicious’ eyes. ‘Lid Vicious’ eyes refer to heavily made up eyes for a strong and fierce look. Eyeshadow in this line are in darker shades like purple, gold and dark pink but they retain an air of glamour with added glitter and shine.
Strong lips, on the other hand, go best with more muted eye makeup. Silver eyeshadow would make a good complement to the dark lip colours available. M.A.C even has a black lipstick for the truly daring!
The main point that Yokoe stressed was to avoid practicing both trends at the same time. Either emphasize the lip or the eyes but never both together to avoid chanelling the Morticia Addams (dark goth mistress) vibe.
One news tip I picked up during the chat was that a M.A.C collaboration with DSquared2 is in the works for the near future.
M.A.C Autumn/Winter Style Black 09 collection is now available at all M.A.C stores.
