1. Help, I Have Oily Eyelids!

Posted by Intern on October 14, 2011

You get up in the morning and take out your makeup kit, and spend time to meticulously put on eyeliner, shadow and mascara, only to find that a couple of hours later it’s turned into a horrid, smudgy panda-mess.

Sound familiar? If so, consider this your welcome to the Oily Eyelid Club. As the first step in your initiation, we’re bringing you solutions to keep the grease at bay and your eye makeup staying put.

    Prime
Eyelid primer is your best friend. All it takes is a smidge of good primer applied all over the lid for crease-free, budge-proof, intense colours that last all day.

The two Holy Grail primers available on our shores are Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion (RM75 at Sephora) and Too Faced Shadow Insurance (RM69 at Sephora) – both available in multiple finishes.

But heaven forbid we limit ourselves. Check out other options below. As always, try to test several products to know what works for you.

NARS Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base, RM75.86, kissandmakeupny.com; MAC Prep + Prime Eye, RM130 at M.A.C Cosmetics

BareMinerals Prime Time Brightening Eyelid Primer, RM75 at Sephora; ELF Mineral Eyeshadow Primer, RM32 at Girls Wise Selection

For those of you not into eye makeup and just looking to control the eyelid ick, primer with translucent powder to set works amazingly.

    Product
Pick heavy duty eye makeup products known for their staying power. For eyeshadows, stick with powder as opposed to cream and choose very pigmented, finely milled ones for maximum hold with the primers.

As for eyeliners, here are our top picks for lasting definition.

Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Pencil, RM69 at Sephora; MAC Liquidlast Liner, RM80 at M.A.C Cosmetics; MAC Fluidline RM72 at M.A.C Cosmetics; Smashbox Cream Eyeliner, approx. RM79 at Sephora

Lastly, pat on some matching eyeshadow on top of your eyeliner with a brush. If you use pencil liner for a smoky finish, you could also top off with liquid to further keep it in place. Et voila, oily eyelids not cramping your style anymore.
