Estee Lauder Model Search 2008

The Estee Lauder Model Search has completed another round of their annual model search event, its finals taking place last Sunday. With the philosophy that every women can be beautiful, this year’s submissions have been divided into two categories: Group 1 (Cleo-Cosmopolitan) ages 30 and below; and Group 2 (The Malaysian Women’s Weekly) ages 30 and above.
Semifinalists of both categories were placed online for public voting. Out of them all, six from Cleo-Cosmo and four from Women’s Weekly categories were selected for the finals, excluding four “Wild Card” contestants that took part as well.
When I entered the concourse area, the first thing I tried to find was the registration booth. Courtesy of a friendly reply led me to the entrance. After checking my name and being handed the door gift, I swiftly glanced around the event for potential picture-taking moments.

The event started on time with clear introduction of the whole event by emcee Joey G as well as the panel of judges. He went on to introduce the first finalist starting with the Cleo-Cosmo Group, though not before all the contestants did a quick catwalk whilst donning bright summer dresses from Eclipse.

A confident introduction was made by the first contestant but due to stage fright, she couldn’t answer the question given though the sporting crowd continued to cheer her on.

Most of the contestants barely pulled through the introduction, and those who did answered the Q&A with long-winded answers.

Before the finale day, all the finalists were given a 1-Day Catwalk training by the established andrewsmodels. The ladies confidently strutted down the runway working their poses, their hair fluttering away thanks to a nearby fan.

Supportive fans going all out for their favourite.
Sporting more composed attire, the Women’s Weekly group (ages 30 and above) was introduced. Neither their outfits nor age hindered this group from conquering the catwalk with their fierce poses and walk. It came to no surprise when the Most Promising Catwalk Winner title went to a contestant from this group.

Before announcing the winners, violinist Joanne Yeoh gave a passionate performance dressed in an elegant sequined black gown.

Subsidiary titles were given out before the respective winners for both Cleo-Cosmo and Women’s Weekly titles were announced.
