Hello, Gallo…

When I first found out that a fellow Raffles LaSalle design student beat me to launching my own brand, I was not a happy camper. When I found out that she’s two years my junior, I was seething. When I found out that not only were her collections being shown in Paris, they were also stocked there, I decided to grab a knife and head right over to see what the big fuss was about.
A year and five dresses later, I’ve also decided to spare her life. And thank God for that, or we would’ve lost one strong talent to a random PMS mode. Her designs are an understated chic, her shop is a decadently quaint find, and her fit… To hate something that fits me to a T is impossible, therefore I stopped trying the first day I purchased a dress from Teresa Thian.

Teresa, a recent mother to a beautiful baby girl, began her dream in 2007. She opened Gallo (which is the Italian translation of her Chinese name, Siew Lin) after a short stint as a fashion coordinator at a department store; the journey hasn’t been easy, but Teresa has never looked back. And why should she? Within a year, the brand has already found a secure home in global fashion industry. What began as a storeroom dream has erupted into a worldwide demand; Teresa is currently juggling stockist offers from Singapore, Australia, United States, Thailand, and even Spain.

At the rate that Gallo is growing, it’s just the right time to start tracking its success. And I, for one, am a hero… I spared her life for the sake of the rest of you. Gallo has a new website at www.gallobythian.com. If I were you, I wouldn’t hesitate any longer; her Spring/Summer ‘08 collection has “perfect” written all over it.
