TiC Surf: Briefcase Bags
By: Yu Shan in Shanghai
Time flies… and we’ve got past the Dreaded Monday and finally reached Wednesday. Will you make it till Friday? Hopefully TiC Surf helps tide you through another tiring/exhausting day with the very tangible purchasing possibilities we dangle in front of you, not so healthy for your bank account but very good for relaxing the mind. Today’s item of choice is the Briefcase Bag.
This tote, previously used by your dad to carry all those files is now the accessory of choice. My favorite place to look for these bags are vintage stores, but one can sometimes find a good briefcase bag in regular stores as the trend has recently been picked up by hipsters such as Alexa Chung and is gaining momentum especially amongst ladies with distinctly vintage styles.

WhoWhatWear Daily’s special feature on briefcase bags.
Roomy and chic-what’s not to love?
Irrelevant (because they don’t ship to us), Urban Outfitters makes a good vintage-inspired bag that could, however, point you in the right style direction.

Folio Briefcase Bag, $58

Plaid Briefcase Bag, $49.99

Sabina Leather Foldover Satchel, $199.99
Okay, enough dreaming. Let’s get the ball rolling and take a look at the local picks:

Bally Black Vintage Shoulder Bag, RM150 from Da Doo Ron Ron.
Attractive options are also available at 6 T’s Thingy, but unfortunately they were all snatched up like hot cakes. Do bookmark this site though, as I feel that they’re on the right side of the briefcase trend…

Our peeps over at MuffStitShop also provide good pickings.

'Croc' skin black messenger bag with multiple compartments, AUD 35 (currently available)

Vintage tan messenger bag with pen compartments (sold)
Type the words “Vintage Briefcase” into Ebay and you also get a world of beckoning beautiful bags…

Vintage Laptop Satchel Bag

Moroccan Leather Briefcase

The high street, always not to be outdone, gives its two cents worth.

Topshop Leather Pocket Satchel, 80 pounds.

Miss Selfridge Tan Double Buckle Satchel, 20 pounds.
Now that we’ve settled that question on how to get your hands on one, how do you style this item? Easy - part of its allure lies in the fact that it works its way into your daily wardrobe seamlessly.

Liebemarlene Vintage’s lovely ladylike style. She got her bag at a thrift store.

Eleh, always chic and beautiful, also has a penchant for this particular item which belongs to her mother.

And last but not least, I hopped on the briefcase train too! :)
Okay, so I cheated a little by snatching the briefcase bag from my boyfriend to take this particular outfit shot for my blog as I felt that it complemented my outfit better than the bag I was actually carrying. It is from Giovanni Valentino.

Inspired? Till next week and happy shopping!
