That Bombshell Look
It’s common knowledge that Bangsar is boutique central of Kuala Lumpur. Just take a stroll along the Jalan Telawis on a weekend and you’ll see stylish women with bags and bags of stuff hanging from their arms, each from the many different boutiques there. Needless to say, it can get pretty daunting to pick which store to hit first. My favourite? It has to be Bombshell on Jalan Telawi 2. It makes the climb up two flights of stairs worth it - I suppose there is some truth to the phrase “Shopping is my cardio”.
Run by Ming and Ethan, Bombshell’s look definitely reflects the eccentric tastes of its owners. The vintage wallpaper gets much love from most people I know, as does the mannequin leg which sticks out from the cashier counter. Walk into the fitting room and you’ll see quirky messages scribbled on the wall by their customers. It’s a store that’s bursting with personality.
Memo to self: get Tongue in Chic’s logo on that wall!
Another cool thing about Bombshell is the fact that it’s a salon as well. Ming is the hair extraordinaire with the magic scissors. He has years of experience in the fashion and entertainment industry behind him so you can trust him with your crowning glory. And if you think that his services will be expensive because of his experience, think again. A cut and blow will set you back only RM50.
But what about the clothes you ask?
The clothes and accessories in the boutique fall under Show Pink, which is spearheaded by Ethan. Unlike most of the Bangsar boutiques, Show Pink caters to both sexes, which is a definite plus. I heard that Ethan sources most of his clothes from young designers in Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, Japan and London. Irregardless of location, Show Pink’s style is decidedly unconventional, with an emphasis on vintage-inspired looks. But if you want real vintage stuff, Show Pink stocks them too. You can find really unique dresses on their vintage section for only RM30 or so. I’ve spent way too much time and money browsing through that specific section …
