We’ve featured Bijou Bazaar on Tongue in Chic before, and are extremely please to have them on board as a partner for our Marketplace (which requires no ticket to enter btw!) Eighteen of their vendors are coming in under the Bijou Bazaar roof and we grilled Maryam on what to look forward to!
Describe your bazaar in four words.
Friendly, cosy, fun, with-a-touch-of-janitorial-chic. The last one was one word!
Give us a quick rundown on what we can expect to buy at your area.
There will be two indie clothing groups anchoring Bijou Bazaar that day, namely Airplane Systm (Indonesian) and Miss Bow Group (Malaysia), which will be featuring their three lines; Button My Buttons, Teetees and Helly Beachwear. We promise an eclectic mix of upcoming independent designers, e-boutiques, rookie crafters, xxx-treme crafters, 80s vintage, indie bands peddling their EPs, secondhand clothing and little knick knacks. Our traders can be found in the Marketplace as well as in the KL Pac building.
Any cheeky activities you’ll be up to?
Cheekiness at Bijou Bazaar is normally impromptu but do watch the hilly bit in front of the Marketplace. Something is definitely brewing…
Sounds like molehills or moving mountains. What would you do if you caught someone stealing Bijou Bazaar things? I’m simply curious.
We are very kind at Bijou Bazaar, we believe in freedom to choose and so shoplifters will be given a choice. They can either choose to be tickled to death or listen to me sing for three solid hours.
Hahaha! What are you mostly doing to be doing on that day and where can one catch you?
They call me ‘mandur’ at Bijou Bazaar, I’d be doing my rounds at the Marketplace and the 2nd floor of KL Pac building to make sure my traders are comfortable and happy. I sometimes double up as their sales assistant too. Other than that, music is my only vice and if I go M.I.A., you can find me in the Acoustic Livehouse staring agape at the likes of Koko Kaina, Najwa, Yuna, Reza Salleh and Jerome Kugan. No candid photos please. Between 2 to 4 pm, I’ll be at The Lakeside to support Bijou Bazaar’s acoustic line up. If you are familiar with our acoustic set, you’d know that we showcase brilliant raw talents as well. Do check them out!
