TiC Style Awards 09: Best Fashion Photographer
There are only a few days left before the end of the Tongue in Chic Style Awards 09 hence all the more important to get your votes in ASAP! The category of 'Best Fashion Photographer' is a highly contested one due to the extremely talented pool of nominees, so we took a closer look at their credentials in order to help you exercise your votes better. These photographers are the crème de la crème of the region so naturally what entails is a treat for the eyes!
Vincent Paul Yong (MY)

As a self taught photographer, Vincent Paul Yong has proven that innate talent overrides any amount of teaching when it comes to flexing mastery behind the lens. He's been an essential part of the local industry and to commemorate his 5th anniversary, he is hosting an exhibition of his works at Kinokuniya KLCC from 7 to 31 January 2010. Although Zhang Jingna was a late bloomer with photographer - only picking up her first camera at the relatively late age of 18, she has made up for lost time with her unrelenting talent. She is now a young 21 year old but her belt runneth over with awards like Singapore Master Photographer of the Year 2007, Overseas Master Photographer of the Year, and Associateship in the Masters Photographers Association. The man behind the ad campaigns of Singaporean label Woods & Woods creates images that are sensual and authentic and his talents have been recognized with countless awards and nominations in photography competitions over the years. One of the most highly respected and demanded photographers in Philippines, Doc Marlon Pecjo's images can be seen on titles like FHM, Cosmopolitan, MEGA, MAXIM, Sugar-Sugar, CHALK and others. Taking an unusual stance to the usually glamorous world of photography is Rxandy Capinpin who creates intriguing visuals that engage slight weirdness. Always pushing the boundaries of conventional beauty, Rxandy plugs right on away creating lasting visuals that leave a mark with you long after your first view.
Kai Z Feng (HK)

Although he grew up in Shanghai, photographer Kai Z Feng has made a name for himself in UK where he has shot for a wide range of magazines including Vogue, L'uomo Vogue, GQ and Harpers Bazaar. His Flickr photostream reads like a whos-who in celebritydom and it's always remarkable how he manages to capture stark honesty in each of his images.

If I had to compare Tawintaew to a piece of candy, he would be a lollipop. His pictures always have a pop of life to them and the interesting colours often make for a great visual spectacle. The go-to photographer for fashion editorials in Indonesia, the very talented Luki displays his prowess with his camera in images that are visually strong and often dramatic. With such mammoth titles like Rolling Stones, Elle and Harper's Bazaar under his belt you wouldn't be remiss in thinking that Glenn Prasetya is an industry old hat. However the 27 year old photographer is a relative newbie who started shooting professionally in 2008. Nicoline Patricia Malina is something of an international child of fashion having attended photography school in Europe and working with clients in Antwerp, Paris and Amsterdam as well as a hometown Indonesia. This year she was awarded the 'Photographer of the Year' from A+ Scarlett Celebrity Fashion Awards as well as crowned the 'Young Photographer of the Year' by the Elle Style Awards. May Lin Le Goff's striking composition equates to haunting photos that capture a delicate taste of the macabre and the weird. She shoots together with the Singaporean-based fashion-collaboration-platform Test Shoot Gallery that have thus far showcased a wealth of talent and innovation. Her Voyuerism series is the perfect epitome of her work - beautiful gothic.
