A Dozen Designers for the 2008 Olympics.

Lane Crawford
Hong Kong-based retail emporium Lane Crawford has been hitting the nail hard with the upcoming Olympics to be held in Beijing just two months away. Besides investing a sky rocket amount of USD38 million on an 80,000-square-foot store in Beijing’s new Seasons Palace mall, the retailer also spent an estimated USD100,000 on a 12-page insert in American Vogue. Which of course, is peanuts compared to the millions mentioned beforehand. Mere peanuts.
It’s been announced yesterday that Lane Crawford has also invited 12 leading fashion designers in the U.S. to partake in the Olympics celebration. List include Alexander McQueen, Raf Simons, Martin Margiela, Alberta Ferretti and 3.1 Phillip Lim; and each fashion label gets to pick an Olympic sport of their choice and create a piece inspired by it.
It’s reported that Phillip Lim has taken to table tennis and Alexander McQueen to fencing. I don’t doubt their ability to create something that will wow us. But it does sound like a challenge Project Runway would have come up with.
Pieces will be revealed in Beijing during the Olympic Games.
