TiC Tunes: Yuna vs Zee Avi
When it comes to acclaimed Malaysian songstresses of the modern day, two names immediately pop into mind, that of Yuna and Zee Avi. Both ladies have soared through the charts and created an indelible mark on the industry with their charming talents on the microphone. Much like their music, the personal style of the two ladies share similar themes but are wholly distinct and individualistic. Here we take a look at the two indie darlings and chronicle their sartorial likeness and difference.
With their penchant for light soulful tunes that pull at the heartstrings, Yuna and Zee may often get confused with each other on the radio, but in person the two actually share very little common traits. Admittedly, on the most basic and simplistic level, the most immediate thing that jumps out when you put Yuna and Zee together is their common age, (23 years old), nationality, race and ethnicity.
Without trying to overdramatize these race-card here, both ladies display a certain sense of propierty, modestly marvellous, in their wardrobe choices. Although it could very well be a circumstance of their shared identities, it seems to be more of a reflection of the kind of music they make - afterall one doesn't expect a crooning jazz singer to dress ala the Pussycat Dolls, no?
Yuna
First impressions have never been more wrong when it comes to Yuna. She has singlehandedly bust open conventions attached with someone who wears a head-scarf. Though she may look the part of a shy and meek lady, this law graduate comes packaged with fiestiness.
Her outfits usually contain a street-edge to it and she is often seen rocking a hoodie with great kicks.
Her looks are very casual yet she always manages to incorporate trends into her outfits.

Zee Avi, on the other hand, infuses a touch of whimsy and vintage to her clothing.
Zee Avi
Like Yuna, the 23 year old Zee has created a name for herself singing meaningful songs that pack an emotional punch. She channels a flair for vintage, both in her outifts and in her songs.
Trends do not apply on this lady who prefers a more classic palatte.
Based in LA where oversexualised one-hit-wonders are churned out faster than you can say 'implants', Zee goes against the flow with her naturalistic approach to fashion and beauty.
Her thick mane of hair is often worn loose and light makeup adorns her face. The result is something wholly fresh and natural, very much the sense we get in her songs.
Though she may not be overtly traditional in her dress sense, she still retains some part of her groundroots by keeping modest hemlines and showing little skin. Tights are often used to cover bare legs while necklines are kept proper.
When it comes to the sartorial battle of the unassuming songstresses, both Yuna and Zee's casual sensibilities in fashion work very well for their music careers. Afterall any pretense might detract from the quality of their tunes on stage, and the focus should rightly be on their innate talent not what they wore (sorry, Lady Gaga).
