M-IFW09: Couture Inspirations

Filed In Blog by karen wong | Comments: 1 | Views: 329

The Couture Inspirations showcase which happened on Day 3 was one that highlighted Malaysian style haute couture. High end fashion with intricate detailing was given a dash of local culture with the usage of traditional fabrics and designs. The three brands that showcased their intrepid design-making skills were David Fung, N.A.F.I Collezione and local shoe brand N.Y.C.

'David Fung' by David Fung

Fir st and foremost was designer David Fung with his namesake label. Since starting his own label in 05, David Fung has made a name for himself in designing contemporary wear. At this year's Malaysian International Fashion Week, the theme of 'David Fung' label was Future Lover. What entailed were dresses with short hemlines in metallic colours and gold tassles and detailing.

Wholly in line with the futuristic theme, exposed zippers were seen conspicuously in David Fung's collection.

The meticulous details are what distinguishes this collection from any mere clothing design.

N.A.F.I Collezione

Making her debut at M-IFW09 is designer Nafisah Sugiyama who has been living in Japan for 25 years with her label, N.A.F.I Collezione. Her collection combines the dressmaking culture of Japan, Tokyo Yasai Gako Doreme and Bongka with the Malaysian fashion landscape.

She uses chiffon, french lace and organza to create designs that can be worn casually during the day and dressed up for evening wear.

She spins a fresh new update on traditional clothes with bright colours and very precise detailing.

The designer seems to be a fan of animal prints as she wears one herself during the curtain call for her show.

The local shoe brand is actually behind all the footwear for this Couture Inspiration showcase. Their latest Autumn/Winter '09 collection showcased a sleek, edgy designs in a multitude of colours.

Their signature shoe was brought out and presented by their muse who I sadly can't identify, although she did wear a gorgeous sequinned dress Gwen and I absolutely coveted!
