Trend-Talk-Tuesdays: Studs
There's no denying that one of the hottest trends of the moment is studs. The studded look has been incorporated into everything - bags, clothes, shoes, even sunglasses, and it seems there is no end to the love affair with these little embellishments.
Back before studs were in vogue, it was most often associated with people who wouldn't be considered regular style icons. Imagine Hells Angels gang member with their studded leather jackets and pimped out Harley Davidsons; that's the first image that came to my mind when the subject of studs were brought up.

Goths also got in on the studded action with their uniform de riguer of studded accessories. In black leather - naturally!

The turning point for studs came when the studded pyramid belt became an international obsession. It may have started out adorning the low-slung jeans of punk boys, but eventually everyone who was anyone were seen sporting them too.

It was then that studs became more accepted amongst the fashion society and started to gain some cool credibility. The rest, as they say, is history.

It has been especially popular when incorporated into shoes. You saw it in Balmain, Prada, Steve Madden and so many others.

I especially like it when creative folks out there add studs into their DIY projects.

Gwen usually wears a black cardigan to the office that she jazzed up with studs all along the sides. And little does she know, I intend to steal that some day!
More recently we've seen studs incorporated into eyewear. Rihanna rocks a pair of studded sunnies in her videoclip for 'Run This Town' together with Jay-Z and Kanye West.

This might have been the moment when studs crossed the line from fashion fab to fashion fad. The choice of style over form in this studded sunnies stretched the limits of chicness and perhaps might signal the start of the end of overused and overplayed studs.

Are those studded sunnies chic or silly? Do you think studs are overrated and have expired on the trendy front? Share with us your favourite studded item!
