Interview: Say Hi To Couple!
Malaysia's very own power-pop band, four-piece Couple has been plying their trade for years now. They've released their first professional album, "Top of The Pop" on MySpace and sky rocketed from there. They attracted interests from Indonesia, Japan and even scored some massive record deals with distribution possibilities in US, Indonesia and the UK.
Having named as one of the Top 25 Best Bands on MySpace by the legendary Rolling Stones magazine and having their first album, "Top Of The Pop", reviewed by regional and international publications, you can tell these guys (and a girl!) are pretty damn good at what they're doing!
Wanting to know more about their fashion style, TiC called up frontman, Aidil to have a little girly chat whilst digging a few insights about the band's fashion stance.
TiC: Your fellow musician Killeur Calculateur dresses up in black with yellow armband all the time. Does Couple have a signature style?
Aidil of Couple: No, not really. We want to be comfortable when performing as during gigs, we definitely sweat a lot and it gets uncomfortable if you're wearing something that doesn't feel relaxed in. So in a way, I guess our signature style is pretty much t-shirts and jeans!
Who do you think is the most fashionable in Couple? It's totally fine by me if you say yourself....
I am not really sure about this but I'd go with our bassist. We've changed our bassist a couple of times already and they are all very stylish!
Upon checking, I found out their previous bassist, Ojoe is indeed a pretty fashionable lad.

Further stalking revealed that their current bassist is actually my senior from high school!
Who usually takes the longest to get ready before hitting the stage?
It has to be the bassist! Hair check, tidy up the shirt, adjust the jeans, hair check and then finally, rock the stage where it won't make any difference in the end, because we'll all end up sweating anyways!
Is there any band's fashion style that you guys admire and look up to?
The Hives and their fancy suits! They have different suits for every concert. May it be in black and white, colourful, unicolour, it looks so cool. We're totally up for that if we have the money. That and also if the weather in Malaysia isn't so hot. We get gigs at air-conditioned venues but we still don't have the money to dress fancily!
What are your favourite most recent purchases?
I usually go thrifting for t-shirts and shorts but I always go to Topman for their skinny jeans. The last was in July - Oh God, was it that long ago? It was sort of like a gift to myself as Couple was nominated in the Shout Awards. I really like Topman jeans because it's affordable compared to even local jean brands! And the best part is, they fit me so perfectly I don't even have to have them altered.
