What started out as a bookstore, ended up as an all-in-one lifestyle company; with books, music, homeware and kitschy items all offered under one roof.
Although Ak.'sa.ra (pronounced as Aksara) has come a long way and has sprouted branches all around Jakarta (Cilandak Town Square, Plaza Indonesia and Pacific Place), it’s flagship store and headquarters remains in Kemang – the heart of Jakarta’s hip scene!
The books and magazines section sells imported copies of books that you won’t be able to find elsewhere in Indonesia. Cult fash-mags, architectural and interior-design magazines, guilty-pleasure chicklits by Candace Bushnell and even controversial Salman Rushdie's literature pieces to are available.
The store also houses a large variety of Lomography cameras, adorable gifts and unique one-of-a-kind homewares.
Ak.'sa.ra also produces a record label which distributes music by local indie scene (some of you might be familiar with SORE, Goodnight Electric or White Shoes and the Couples Company), as well as hosts events such as ‘Beatfest’, which showcases international acts such as Whitest Boy Alive, Steve Aoki, and Phoenix.
