Baring it with Brüttal
By: Joyce
It was three weeks ago that I was having a chat with the beautiful (inside and out!) team from Envy magazine when they started raving about this lingerie store in Bangsar Village II. When the people of Envy say something’s worth going hunting for, I take their word for it whole-heartedly.

Opening its doors on April 18th, Brüttal displays a variety of trendy and posh intimate wear ranging from flirty ruched thongs to wired negligees with built-in bra cups. Its logo of a bright juicy red apple to represent their luscious lingerie seems apt then. “If you spot a red juicy apple amongst a whole lot of other apples that aren’t as enticing as this one, wouldn’t you be tempted to take a bite and taste it?” explains owner Adeline Choo.

We at Tongue in Chic are all for people who commit to something out of passion, and Adeline falls under that category. She opened Brüttal due to her adoration for lingerie and dissatisfaction at the limited choices available in the market in terms of design, size and price.
“I’d also like to change the perception that sexy and lacy lingerie’s usually more pricey and that one should only wear them on occasions,” she adds.
“Our brand’s perception is affordable luxury as our lingerie price ranges from RM25.90 to RM119.90 only. Our collection of lingerie ranges from sizes 32A to 38D at the moment but we will be adding new sizes to our collection in future.”

Their selection of balcony bras, teddies, frilly boy shorts and corsets are sourced and imported from Europe, Australia, Hong Kong and Korea with plans to bring in more from different countries in the near future. Looking around the store, I inquired what the best-selling item there was.
“Our inventory for our super sexy black fishnet stockings (with lace and ribbons at the top and a classy seam at the back) cleared out within ten days of our soft launch! Our black sequin super low-cut Brazilian sold out within 18 days, and some super low-cut thongs have been very well received as well,” confides Adeline.
Although Brüttal plans not to restock most items once they’re sold out so that it will always have a different look and feel every few months, they have decided to replenish the items mentioned above due to the overwhelming response.

With glamourous thongs and decadent bras going for as low as RM20 and RM69 respectively, their prices must prove competitive for local lingerie brands, no?
“Competition is healthy but then again, the style and design that we offer is totally different from most local brands. Therefore, it’s not direct competition,” says Adeline.
With women of ages ranging a vast difference between teenagers to elderly women in their late 60s, Brüttal intends to introduce a few new lines in the near future once they’re done concentrating on building the brand.
