Shanghai Tang A/W 09: Kaleidoscope (KL)

Shanghai Tang is well famous for their reinvention of traditional cultural wears, like the qipao. As seen in the Summer/Spring '09 collection which we covered here, the HK-born brand has a a flair for classic silhouettes that are flattering to a woman's body. In their Autumn/Winter 2009 collection entitled ‘Kaleidoscope’, the company proves that their reputation is one that is well-earned.

‘Kaleidoscope’ encompasses a wide range of influences, from traditional Peranakan to German Bauhaus prints. The women’s collection contains three inspirations: Nature, Cubism and Art Deco. Utilizing different textiles and incorporating avant garde prints, the selections are all very tasteful.

Using soft fibers like wool in their clothing, the Kaleidoscope collection remains chic while sensible about the cooler temperature. 

The Underwater Garden Satin Chiffon Bias Cut Dress (left) was my personal favourite of the day! The geometry print dress on the right is the Bauhaus Print Silk Sleeveless Bias Cut Dress.

Of course, the company could not neglect the item which they're famous for! Featuring intricate flowers and details, Shanghai Tang's qipao for this season makes up for the gloomier days with pops and splashes of colour.
