Trend Talk Tuesdays: Cape/Skirts
A few weeks ago I posted about my latest lemming: capes! After guiltily indulging in my favourite pastime of fashion blog stalking, I stumbled upon fashionistas frolicking about in what seems to be one of the latest trends – wearing skirts as capes or vice versa.

Swedish boutique, Patouf, which is based in Stockholm has an absolutely gorgeous tiered miniskirt in their Spring/Summer 2009 line which can also be worn as a cape. Say hello to the Molly skirt/cape, retailing at 1,595 kr = RM767 (click here to view), yikes!

Capes are much loved because of its versatility to be worn in so many creative ways. Off-shoulder, wrapped around like a shawl, and of course, as it is - a skirt.

Plus, we have to admit that it’s always handy having multi-functional pieces lying around when you want to do a quick outfit change in the office before a night out on the town. This little crochet number is in fact for sale for just USD$38 over here!

So why not the reverse either? I for one know I have many skirts in the back of my closet because let’s face it, the thing about a patterned piece is that once you wear it, you have to wait awhile before wearing it again. Turn it up a notch by transforming it into a cape – no sewing required either!

To quote the iconic Edith Bouvier Beale from the movie Grey Gardens, "This is the best thing to wear for today, you understand. Because I don't like women in skirts and the best thing is to wear pantyhose or some pants under a short skirt, I think. Then you have the pants under the skirt and then you can pull the stockings up over the pants underneath the skirt. And you can always take off the skirt and use it as a cape. So I think this is the best costume for today."
Never be limited by your creativity – even pencil skirts can metamorphose into capes.

Let’s take a look at how these fashionable ladies do it :)
