Lenka In Malaysia
The first time I heard 'The Show' playing on our local radios, I fell in love with it. Whimsical, uplifting and catchy - I started listening to some of Lenka's other singles and I couldn't help but be intrigued by the Australian songbird, who has been touted by many to be a 'breath of fresh air' to the music scene. I managed to meet Lenka in person as she's in KL for her Asian promo tour!
With TM as the official partner (her song 'The Show' was used in their commercial), the main highlight of the promo tour was the "Lenka Live in Malaysia" showcase which was held last Sunday at 1 Utama Shopping Centre. The turnout was impressive, with more than 600 fans attending to watch Lenka perform 5 songs from her debut self-titled album.

While she was in Malaysia, she also managed to do a special TV recording alongside local artistes Yuna and Bunkface for Channel [V], entitled the "Lenka & Friends" program.
Yesterday, I attended the press conference, held at Concorde Hotel. :)
The TM commercial which featured Lenka's hit single, The Show, was aired while we waited for Lenka to arrive.
I expected Lenka to appear in a quirky ensemble of some sort, so she took me by surprise when turning up in a traditional baju kurung.
Lenka was presented with a gorgeous gold necklace as a gift from Sony Music.
When asked if she found her twitter account and facebook fan page to be invasive of privacy, she laughed and chirped:
"I've never had any horrible experiences with my fans! All the ones who turn up at my shows and the airport are really nice and polite. Once or twice, I've got told off for revealing too much in my twitter page, but nothing too serious though. it took me awhile to hop on the Twitter bandwagon, but I finally did, because it's such a simple way to connect to all of my fans!"
She related her experience with durians and also shared of how she found pirated versions of her CD on sale when she paid a visit to the famous Petaling Street:
"It was funny, but in a really sad way - the artwork was wrong, and there were words that I didn't even understand printed on the back of the CD cover! And one of my bandmates told me that Ashley Tisdale's record was in the CD as well. I felt like taking all the CDs and going 'Hey, this is mine!', but I didn't dare to do it ..."
Before the press conference ended, we asked Lenka if she had anything to say to her Malaysian fans, and she enthusiastically said:
"Thanks for being so passionate and supportive and for turning up to all the crazy things we've been doing. I'll be back in October to perform!"
The busy songstress will be heading to Bangkok today for the remaining of her Asian promo tour. For those who missed out on her showcase this time around, you heard her - she'll be back in Malaysia in October, so watch out for that! :)
