Trend Talk Tuesdays: Loafers & Oxfords
Although gladiators were making a strong comeback in all forms, shapes and sizes last season, the trend is beginning to die out now with the gladiator look becoming dated and overdone. The more retro style loafers (penny loafers) and oxfords are now moving to become super trendy and I have to admit that although I was a bit wary about them, I’m now completely sold. Everything about them screams comfort and effortless style!

Similar to the loafers, the oxford too have decided to return to the international fashion scene with a big bang. Traditionally constructed out of leather, oxfords are normally plain coloured complete with a stringy pair of laces and a very significant ‘dot-pattern’ on the body. Today, oxfords come in a variety of colours and patterns, and to complement today’s fashionable women, you can even get high heeled versions. My favourites so far are this black-and-white patent pair. They kinda remind me of bowling shoes! :D

Celebrities have been seen rocking their loafers and oxfords:

Katie Holmes looking casual chic with a scarf tied round her neck and a comfortable looking pair of loafers.

Alexa Chung jazzes it up a bit with a silk camisole and high-waisted skirt paired with a gorgeous pair of loafers.

Kirsten Dunst in a vintage-looking mini dress and a matching pair of old-school loafers, complete with gussets.

It’s always interesting when high fashion brands reinvent something so retro, turning it around completely and making it look ultra-modern. Here’s Prada’s take on the loafers!

On an even wilder scale, here’s Belgian menswear fashion designer Raf Simons’ take on the reinvention of the loafer.

Let’s take a look at how these fashionistas have played around with their loafers and oxfords for inspration!
