Just-For-Fun Friday: Flea Markets
Flea markets have increased its popularity in KL over the past two years and these days, they come by on an average of two a week, with some weekends seeing up to 5 happening simultaneously! Each one sells almost the same items on the racks, so just for fun, let's comment on how we feel about flea markets these days - are they hip or passe?

When it comes to flea markets in KL, scouring isn't always fun because you know what to expect - slightly marked up sourced items from other parts of South East Asia and a flock of vintage finds from bundle shops. Really, most of what varies is the venue or concept itself. And because they come by so frequently, you never feel bad for missing them anymore.

Personally, I'd like to see different concepts introduced to the flea market norm. I like the idea of car boot sales! Despite our erratic weather, it would give a nice spin to local flea markets. I like the communal layout, and the fact that anyone trying to sell off their old junk can be a vendor for a day.

Honestly, I think the local flea market scene might start evolving very soon. Just two weeks ago, Threadszoo held a Warehaus Sale at Mist Club, Bangsar. Taking place in a club during daytime, cheap drinks were served and the DJ consoles were used to play rocking electro tracks. Needless to say, the flea market update was an instant hit.

So this Friday, I'd like to know: Do you think local street markets have lost a little appeal? Why? What would make you excited to go for a flea market again? What would your dream flea market have? Live performances? More interactive activities? More variety? Pray tell!

P.S. If you are bored of shopping at flea markets, try exploring charity shops, the pasar malam or bundle shops!
