MTV World Stage 2009: Kasabian
I got my first taste of Kasabian via the O.C. soundtrack about four years ago, and have since then regarded them as one of my top favourite Brit indie rock bands. If you haven't heard of them yet, I think it's best you do now; considering they'll be around in August and you need some time for research!
This is Kasabian; aren't they a dish? Hailing from Leicester, they're made up of Tom Meighan on vocals, Sergio Pizzorno on lead and rhythm guitar and backing vocals, Chris Edwards on bass and Ian Matthews on drums.
The name Kasabian is taken from Linda Kasabian, former member of Charles Manson's "Family", currently still shunned as the young pregnant girl who drove the getaway for the murderers of the Tate-LaBianca murders. But don't be quick to associate their name to music as hard, satanic-like rock - they simply just thought the name was cool.
To date, Kasabian has had three studio albums, but four if you count a live album. Their electronica-indie rock fusion is disjointed, messy and erratic, distinct in rough vocal style and music pacing. Sort of like Oasis!
Their latest album, West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum is the same. There isn't a single thread that pulls together, but Kasabian proves a good high doesn't always require much sense as the album soared to number one on the UK Top 40 Charts!
So have a listen or two, and if you like their stuff, read on because they're coming down next month for the MTV World Stage Live in Malaysia Concert! It'll be staged at Sunway Lagoon Surf Beach at 6pm on 15th August. MTV WORLD STAGE “Live in Malaysia” will be staged in front of a live audience of about 15,000 and premiere on MTV Asia Friday, 28 August 2009 at 8pm. MTV WORLD STAGE “Live in Malaysia” will also be broadcast on 44 MTV Channels in 157 different countries.
