TiC Surf: Asymmetrical
Did you know that the word ‘symmetry’ can be taken to mean ‘an imprecise sense of harmonious or aesthetically pleasing proportionality and balance’? Symmetry is rigid perfection. However in the fashion world, symmetry is boring, mundane, overdone.
With the toga top making a comeback this season, asymmetrical designs are sprouting up everywhere! Think ruffles on one shoulder, uneven hems and side slits, and irregular sleeve shapes.

Asymmetrical dresses appear very whimsical and fairytale-like, especially the Marchesa and Preen dresses below! Although it’s not practical, I do think every fashionista needs one or two unconventional, stand-out pieces like these in her wardrobe for that special occasion. The Oscar de la Renta skirt is great for corporate wear, especially paired with the belted blazer as so.

Like with most eccentric fashion trends, keep it sweet and simple when going asymmetrical. Keep accessories to a minimum depending on the cut of your piece. High necklines and asymmetrical covered shoulders especially don’t work well with necklaces. Balance your accessories with your asymmetrical side – note how the model holds the handbag in the Bottega Veneta photo below.
