Beauty On Tuesdays: Summer Eye Makeup Trends Tutorial
Makeup trends aren't always dramatic and over the top, as long as you know the right techniques. This summer, metallic eye shadows (Jennifer Hudson) are in but there's always the fear of looking like the Tin Man's sister. Colours are also being spotted on lower lashlines for a fresh and funky pop (Alicia Keys).

Here are a few techniques to wear these trends subtly and simply.
Metallic Eye Shadow

- Moisten a synthetic eyeshadow brush with water or face mist (MAC Fix+). Dip it into your metallic eyeshadow (MAC Pigment in Melon) and apply over the lid up to the crease. This technique is called foliling, which will enhance the shine of the eyeshadow. It also helps the eyeshadow to appear more vibrant.
- Next, using a dry eyeshadow brush, pat the same eyeshadow used before over the first layer. This sets the wet layer, preventing creasing.
- Take a fluffy crease brush, apply a non-shimmery soft brown eyeshadow (MAC Eyeshadow in Era) into the crease to blend out the metallic edges and add more depth.
- Then, apply highlight colour (MAC Eyeshadow in Ricepaper) below the brow.
- Finally, complete the eye makeup with a soft brown eye liner and mascara.

Colour Pop

Very simply, apply a thin line of bright eyeshadow (MAC Eyeshadow in Electric Eel) to give an otherwise neutral look, a pop of colour. Use a thin slanted brush for more percision. Alternatively, you may use a coloured eye liner pencil.
The key to this technique is to keep the upper lid colours neutral.
