Beauty On Tuesdays: Heat Wave Skin Care Routine

Filed In Fashion by connie de alwis | Comments: 0 | Views: 100

It’s not just our makeup that needs some adjustments to survive the heat. Our skin too becomes more prone to dehydration and sun damage, which means extra care is needed to maintain healthy skin.

Morning

Using a light hydrating moisturizer will help lock in the moisture of your skin, preventing too much moisture loss from sweating. Look for a moisturizer that absorbs quickly and doesn’t leave your skin feeling sticky, such as a gel or emulsion moisturizer.

My Recommendation: ~H20+ Face Oasis (RM159) provides hydration equivalent to 8 glasses of water to your skin. It’s lightweight and keeps the skin well-hydrated.

Reduce the risk of skin damage which includes pigmentation, discolouration, wrinkles, and loss of elasticity by using sunscreen. Look for broad spectrum sunscreens (eg. PA++) with SPF 25-35, which will provide you with protection from UVA and UVB rays. Remember to apply at least 30 minutes before going out and replenish it at mid-day.

My Recommendation: RMK Face Protector (RM100) offers good protection and is neither sticky nor oily. This sunscreen is gentle enough to be applied around the delicate, yet often neglected, eye area.

Afternoon

A great way to re-moisturize the skin at mid-day without affecting your makeup, is by using a facial mist. Besides refreshing tired skin, facial mists can help reduce cakiness of foundation/powder on the face. If you have dry skin, this is the best way to refresh your make-up instead of reapplying more powder.

For oily skin, make sure that oil on the surface of the skin is blotted off with blotting paper before touching up with powder to prevent uneven application.

My Recommendation: Shu Uemura Deep Sea Water (RM80) comes in several scents to suit your preference. Some may give additional functions: Lavender (soothing), Mint (cooling), Sage (tightening).

Night

Personally, I tend to have more breakouts in the heat which I assume is caused by a mix of excessive oil production and dehydration. If you experience the same, always be certain that you’ve thoroughly cleansed your skin with proper cleansing methods before hitting the sack [see this post on cleansing].

My Recommendation: I Nuovi Cleanse Splash-Away Makeup Cleansing Oil (RM72) will remove all traces of makeup (including waterproof mascara) and debris from the skin gently yet effectively. Even if you’ve only used sunscreen, proper cleansing is also required.

Calm your skin at the end of the day with a cooling or soothing sheet mask that relaxes the skin.

My Recommendation: My Beauty Diary Masks (available from Guardian Pharmacy)

Moisturizing your skin properly at night helps prepare it for the harsh environment the next day. To know that the moisturizer you’re using is sufficient, your skin should not feel tight in the morning.

My Recommendation: Origins A Perfect World Antioxidant Moisturizer makes the skin feel very comfortable and has a pleasant scent.
