Just-For-Fun Friday: Uggs
Because they provide universal comfort over style, Uggs are generally received as Crocs or Sanuks for the winter. Which makes it as a very questionable trend. And because it's questionable, I'm making it our subject of debate this Friday!

Uggs are a distinct unisex brand of sheepskin boot, with an inner woolen lining and a tanned outer layer. Due to the natural insulative properties of sheepskin, Uggs keep the feet at body temperature, enabling its users to keep incredibly comfy without having to wear socks during use.

Sheepskin boots have been used for ages by sheep shearers, skiers, and off-duty surfers and swimmers to keep the footsies warm. They first gained popularity after the World Wars together with the aviators. But once again, its use was more for its function of insulating feet.

Uggs were sought after as a fashion trend in the early 2000s, as a result of upward celebrity usage. Not many are certain as to how and why this trend came to be, but it did, and it's proven itself to have staying power.

These days, Uggs are commonly worn with short dresses and baggy shirts, or tucked over jeans, leggings and tights. They're seen as a way to slouch an outfit, or keep skin-bearing outfits conservative.

In Hollywood, you'll find that most celebrity "what were they thinking" fashion moments normally sport a pair of Uggs. To their defense, they do look too comfortable to care.

But like Crocs, they look most adorable on kids. Just look at Kingston, David and Ryder.

What do you think of Uggs? Fashion icon or a term that's aptly short for Ugly?
