Triumph Inspiration Award
Last Friday, I went to The Gardens to check out the winner for the Triumph Inspiration Award. The annual event sees local designer students submitting designs based on a theme, of which one will be selected to represent their country on an international platform.

This year's local finalists with their respective models.
The eventual winner of the international competition will get the opportunity to sell a series of their designs at all Triumph boutiques.

This year's theme was Icons. The entries were therefore variant interpretations of what an icon meant to them. Elizabeth Kam from TAR College was inspired by Van Gogh's Starry Night and came up with her design, Gogh Solicatry Night.

Justyne Wong from SML Fashion Academy, perhaps bitten by Trekkie fever, came up with Alienated.

Also from SML, Julia Leong incorporated a pair of black and white hands intertwined as the motif for her lingerie in Mandela's Triumph.

Winnie Foo from TAR College looked towards the Imperial Dynasty to depict Eternity.

Lim Li Pien from MIA got of drift of Harajuku in her colourful piece, Ayumi Hamasaki. I thought her design was great to transcend into ready-to-wear.

One of the more intricate designs was Peggie Lim's Virgin Queen, which referred to the Victorian period for matters of detailing.

SML Fashion Academy student, Kimmy Siow's Two Me.

Lorenzo Peh from TAR College got a cross between Xena the Warrior Princess and Sasha Fierce for his piece, Desires of an Empress.

Eugene Ng from SML Fashion Academy's Save Anna was my favourite design. I had no idea who this Anna was or how the lingerie could save her, but I loved the story it told anyway. Notice how the skirt makes a sea, the belt makes a boat, and the bra makes a monster of some sort? Loving it!
Well, the judges seemed to think so too, because Eugene won, and will be going to Milan on 23rd September 2009 to compete with other winners from around the globe with RM2,000 in his pocket. :) What do you think of the designs?
