Just-For-Fun Friday: Is Hair The New Fur?

You could say the topic for the week is hair raising. Or hair-rendous. But it's Friday; let's do it just for fun anyway! Maison Martin Margiela had the strangest runway showcase for his SS09 collection. One of his looks featured this somewhat scary hairy look:

That's right, that's a hair dress!

Then, Sonia Rykiel presented a crimped hair coat during her SS09 collection.

More recently, Diane Von Furstenburg was featured on the cover of Purple Magazine wearing Magiela's creation!

And last week, award-winning Malaysian stylist Cris Yong dressed Ming up at Zouk's anniversary wearing indie Cousin Itt as shoulder pads!

Lather, rinse and repeat, do I smell a trend? Is hair the new fur? What will PETA think? Do we wash it with shampoo? More importantly, what do you think?

I'm not so certain that it will be a full-blown trend given that it probably causes some uneasiness in most people just by them looking at it. I however do not mind hair in small doses - as trim on shoes or even at the cuffs of a jacket perhaps. I MIGHT be open to it being around the collar. A little too Cruella de Vil?

Oh, for sure what might be out on the market wouldn't be all out. The pics above are runway over the top goods! But it could be retailed in small detailing... Like the new fur slash fringe. Haha But it did make me literally laugh out loud when I saw the pictures!.

I can't believe you misspelt the fashion genius that is Martin Margiela! Shameful.... Big designers in the limelight — namely Alexander Mcqueen, Marc Jacobs, Nicolas Ghesquiere and Azzedine Alaïa are all big fans of his work.

Though I admit, the hair coat (as iconic and humorous as it is) is laughable, and does not correctly represent his 20-year catalogue of awe-inspiring work and artistry.

I've seen cris yong and frens in margiela-inspired 'DIY-wear' at the parties. aaron wore a tinsel number reminiscent of the maison's haute couture shows in the past, and cris himself wore a flowy number with exaggerated shoulders ala spring/summer 2008 (fyi TOPSHOP also ripped off the pieces).
