Beauty On Tuesdays: Vibrating Mascaras
Many things in technology have vibrated for a while now - mobile phones, toothbrushes, video game controllers and of recent, mascaras. Lancôme launched their vibrating Ôscillation mascara in Malaysia on January 19th, followed by Estee Lauder's Turbolash All Effects Motion Mascara a day after. We wrote about their launches but never did let you guys know how effective they are... which changes today :)

I've put both Lancome Ôscillation and Estee Lauder Turbolash to the test to see how they compare to each other.
Lancome Ôscillation Vs Estee Lauder Turbolash
Packaging: Lancome maintains their classic mascara look with a sleek glossy black tube while Estee shows off with metallic gold and royal blue stripes. Both are about the same size but the Turbolash is slightly heavier.
Vibration Trigger: A button is located on Lancome's cap which requires users to hold it down to vibrate. This gives control over the vibration but it may also cause a numb thumb. Estee's vibration starts at the click of a twisted cap. The vibration is consistent but allows little control.
Vibration: Lancome vibrates in a silent and gentle manner. Though the vibration cannot be felt obviously, it's the vibrating lashes that give it away. Estee's vibration is slightly louder and the vibration is more powerful, which sometimes tickles.

Brush: Lancome's slim and felxible brush fits into every corner of the eye to make sure every single lash is coated. On the other hand, Estee has a more bushy brush to evenly coat the lashes.
Formula: The thick consistency of Lancome's formula is black and provides the lashes with maximized volume. Estee's formula is more lightweight and is a very dark black to give the illusion of thicker lashes without the weight.

Effect:
- Length: Estee gives slightly more obvious length
- Volume: Lashes look thicker with Lancome
- Density: Lancome gets to every single lash making them appear more
- Definition: Lashes look neat and more defiined with Estee
- Curl: Both gives excellent curves
- Lasting Power: Both stayed on the whole day without smudging

As it turns out, both mascaras, although similar in concept, give distinctivly different effects that caters to people who are either concerned about volumizing or lengthening. Looks like it's a tie!
What makes these mascaras so special compared to the traditional non-vibrating ones then?
- It takes less time and steps to achieve the desired effect
- Every lash is easily coated without the need of much technique
- Small and hard-to reach lashes, such as the bottom lashes, can be effortless coated
Lancome Oscillation retails for RM120 while Estee Lauder Turbolash goes forRM115.
If you're not ready to take the plunge with such a high end mascara, here are some tips and techniques that can make your lashes look fabulous:
- When curling lashes with a mechanical eyelash curler (Shu Uemura or RMK), lightly pump the curler repitively instead of giving it one hard squeeze. This will prevent the delicate lashes from breaking and also create a more natural-looking curve.
- After curling, run through lashes with a spoolie (mascara brush) to separate the lashes so that they do not appear criss-crossed, which may cause lashes to stick together when applying mascara.
- To prevent the mess of mascara on the eyelids, place a hand-mirror horizontally and look down as you apply mascara. another method is to place a business card on your lid to protect it.
- For maximum effect, you may need to use more than one type of mascara. Start with a mascara base (try Majolica Majorca) for building volume and length. Next, use a volumising mascara (Maybelline Volum' Express) to thicken the lashes. Add length with a fiber mascara (Imju Fiberwig) and finish with another coat of volumising mascara to seal the fibers in.
Hope this post helps you with making those peepers more gorgeous!
